I've been lurking for a week or two here and thought I better join. Lots of good info accumulating on this site.
Little background info. I'm 44, ex motor cop from Montgomery AL. Lots of riding time from racing MX when I was young to 8 years dodging cars for the PD. Left the PD bought a few Harley and realized I was burnt out from riding after doing it as a job for 8 years in the AL heat. Both HD never got above 900 miles on the odometer in a year so I quite riding for almost 10 years. But........The itch got me this spring and I scratched it. Bought a KLR 650 to test the waters and well I think I want to go all in. Been shopping online and think the Tenere is the bike. Main reason is reliability . BMW claims great reliability but I'm not sure. Also if its reliable then you have to deal with the sky high regular maintenance .
One question . Is the Tenere a limited production bike? Will it be around next year?
Thanks guys/gals. Looking forward to getting a Tenere soon and doing some rides with fellow Tenereias...

Welcome on, KGB. I think you're on the right track. Regarding the availability of the Tenere in years to come, I can't speak to that, but I know my local dealer in Whitehorse is expecting some in next spring. I think it's a pretty safe bet. Let us know when you make the plunge and send some pics. Good luck with it. And again, ::004:: . R ::022::

Welcome KGB! You have found a great Board here full of useful information regarding the Super Tenere. I Believe the Tenere will be attainable in the next year and more widespread among dealers. Good luck on your decision to get one. ::022::

Welcome aboard KGB!

I just shot through Montgomery last month on my way to the Barber Vintage Festival. Road up 231 from Dothan. Lots of cotton fields. :)

::003:: aboard KGB!! I used to have a KLR as well. I think you will love the SuperT once you test ride one. But in the meantime, ask away on questions and we will try to answer all!!

Good luck!

I tend to ignore them. I am inundated with questions and pleas for help all the time, as you might imagine.

Oh wait ... Is this a response? I'm gonna ignore it. R 8)

Thanks for all the responses guy's.
Venture I'm leaning towards the Black Super T but won't be picky if I can get one.
One question that comes to mind is in regards to the ABS. I've never ridden a ABS machine. Is it a issue to not be able to quickly disengage the ABS for any off road situation ?

For most, no ... for some, yes. In my little meagre opinion. But I don't do the kind of riding that might even remotely require you to disengage the ABS.

You will get a lot of activity on that question I suspect. Boys, let's play nice. ::025:: ::025:: R ::024::

The Super Ten is my first adventure bike and my second bike with ABS. I often take the thing out to local dirt and gravel roads and try to induce the ABS to make a mistake. So far, I have not found a situation where it would be an advantage to switch it off. I'm not saying such situations don't exist, but so far, this ABS seems very nicely programmed to help the rider get this thing stopped predictably in just about any condition. You can use a LOT of front brake in many situations and the linked brake function is invisible. When you grab the Super Ten's brakes, she just stops, no drama. ::024::

Welcome KGB from South Florida. Asking if the Tenere is a good choice on a Tenere forum might not be the best place for an unbiased answer. However that being said, I don't think you will be disappointed and yes the bike will be around for a while IMHO. -JEP-
