Heated Gear Just Rocks!

Hooked up the new Warm & Safe jacket liner and gloves this morning and went for about an hour-and-a-half sunrise ride. It was 35F when I left out, had the gear on high, and kept turning it down as I was too warm. This is one of the best Christmas gifts ever - never knew what I was missing - toasty warm core and hands make all the difference!

Hope you all got some cool motorcycle stuff under the tree this year!

Heated gear changes the game, but be wary of frost and such... its just YOU and your engine that are all hot 'n happy.

Yes it is grand, and duly noted on the frost. I'd ride in cold temps before bundled like the Michelin Man - now I'm actually warm and much more comfortable. Gotta be safer this way...

Yup- My wife and I discovered heated gear a few years ago. Had heated grips before... You are right, it is a game changer.

It is nice that the Super Ten has enough excess watts to power it. The VStrom was marginal as far as electrical capacity.

Agree. Never knew. Now wear MUCH lighter gear and use the heated gear in more temperature ranges.

I agree, for a couple of reasons:

1 - I never realized how much dexterity I was losing in my hands due to the cold until I rode with my heated glove liners.
2 - being able to wear a layer or two less just makes it easier to move about when needed, and reduces possible "wardrobe malfunctions" that could prove distracting.

Its all a balance but one much easier managed with heat!

I've had heated gear for a LONG time and when I was living in Ohio I thought it was great. But now that I live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mtns it's even better. In Ohio it still got cold enough long enough that I would put the bike up for a period of time. No longer I definitely ride year round. Oh sure there are days when there is black ice, especially on the north side of the mtns. It's not much fun to crank around a curve into the shade to find ice!
The newer heated gear is so much better. Back in the day I thought it was super to have an Eclipse heated vest with a on/off switch. Now with the heat trollers... just dial as much heat as needed!

I second the notion that being cold limits dexterity and add that it also reduces reaction time. So…heated gear is next on my list of goodies, come next Fall.

I was up in New York near Rochester last weekend. Temperatures in the low 40's. Wore my gerbings heated jacket and stayed toasty warm. Riding all day without heat gets to you eventually, so it was nice to keep the upper body warm. Heated grips helps too.

I've had mine for close to ten years. Use to ride all winter as long as the roads were clear. The last few years, the weather has been less predictable so I've been taking the car.

I'm looking into getting some. What brands do you guys like the best? I'm looking at tourmaster and first gear and they seem comparable price and review wise.

I've had a Kanetsu electric vest from Aerostich for several years. It's been simple, reliable and comfortable. With a Darien jacket and pants and a wool sweater, the vest makes all the difference.

I think Warm & Safe is the best heated gear on the market. I have gloves, jacket, pants & socks. Go over to Advrider for endless reviews of heated gear.

I picked up a set of Gerbing G3 gloves a couple of months ago and have been able to ride with them in 30 degree temps. Prior to these gloves I spent a TON of money on gloves, hippo hands, MRS shields etc and STILL go frost bite on my fingers.

If I went with the heated gloves right out of the gate I would have saved at least a few hundred dollars. Now I'm thinking of getting a dual controller and a heated jacket rather than spending a boat load on other items to insulate and make my riding gear fit so tight I can't move well.

Anyone want to buy some slightly used cold weather gloves?

I went Warm N Safe, and have their dual zone wireless controller. I plug in one cable between me and the bike, and the controller receiver in the jacket takes care of splitting everything up. I tend to ride with more heat on my hands than my core, so this works perfectly!

Heated gear is a game changer. I use heated gloves & a liners. Really like the heated gloved over the heated grips so the whole hand is warm. Never had a blown fuse or garment failure but I still carry something to insulate me in case the electric stuff stops working: wool sweater, quilted vest or whatever. I live in Florida but I do venture north in the cooler months and like the comfort & reduced bulk the heated gear provides.

Been using Tourmaster's Synergy gear for years. I won't make any claims that it's the best on the market. I will say that after they got through their controller failure issue about 4 or 5 years ago, they have been very reliable. I had a few of those blown controllers and it was annoying, but always replaced quickly by Tourmaster. Haven't needed to replace one in more than 4 years.

I know others feel very strongly about one brand or another. I don't have that, but I do value my Synergy holding up year after year and just working when I need it.

+1. My Synergy 2.0 came with a dual controller, but I use a Gerbing single controller with it, as it is smaller. I like the way the Tourmaster fits snugly with its expansion panels on each side. I really like Aerostich stuff, but their heated jacket liner fit so loose, that it didn't provide nearly the warmth that I wanted, so I returned it and much prefer the Tourmaster.

I have Gerbing and am happy enough with it, but their customer service has left a little to be desired on a couple of occasions. If and when this stuff croaks on me, I'll get something else. R ::024::
