Glasses for night riding?

Simple question - are glasses with amber (yellow) lenses suitable for night riding?

I have a dark smoke shield installed on my helmet and I want to pick up a pair of decent glasses for the rare times that I get caught beyond dusk with the dark visor on. I've used amber lenses for shooting activities, but never for nighttime use. I'm curious if anybody has some pros or cons of amber vs clear.

Venture,

I've used yellow lenses while cycling in cloudy and night conditions. The yellow lense seems to illuminate my view. I've not used the amber color lenses, but I assume it would be a similar effect.

I used to have an amber pair that I kept on my boat for those occasions where I was out late and had to run in the dark. The amber lenses worked GREAT. I did that for years with no problem. Since then I have lost the amber glasses and just use clear safety glasses, both on the boat and motorcycle.

No problems.

According to Oakleys Lenses website Yellow is the one for poor light conditions, Amber will take away too much light. I've got an amber pinlock insert and its too dark in poor light.

I'm glad you guys pointed out the difference between yellow and amber, I never realized they were different.

It looks like yellow is the ticket, which is what I was thinking anyways.
