Well today I picked the S10 from the dealers and I got a few surprises. They had stripped my old bike of the Garmin sat nav power cable and plumbed it in, also did the same with the Acumen charging cable. To top it off they even took my alloy tax dick off and put it on the new bike as well, that with a full tank of fuel set the day off great.

What better way than to go for a ride. The weather was over cast and very windy but hey new bike and all that.
The first 20 miles was straight A roads and my initial impressions were, good grief this is very comfortable and stable, even against the cross winds, it seems to catch them more than other bikes that I have had but nothing to worry about (gusting to 50 mph according to the BBC news).

Headed up to Scotland around Kielder reservoir and after an hour I was beginning to have misgivings about the engine and performance. It felt laboured, although admittedly I am running it in, it actually felt or rather sounded a bit rough (more on that later).

The more the bike ran the better it felt and this was borne out for me after a few start-ups it would seem to spin easier and fire into action, the tolerances must be keen on this one I thought.
Having been in the seat for a few hours It finally clicked, it wasn’t running rough at all, it was a combination of me being lazy and not understanding that with just under 4000 revs to play with I need to work the box a bit more than I had been doing. The other revelation was that the wind deflectors that are fitted do contribute to a sound not unlike a rough sounding engine? However I you tucked myself down behind and into the screen I could not hear a thing at all, amazing.

So I did a round trip of about 270 miles and I am very pleased with the bike to say the least. Even though I am running it in, it’s fair to say that I have covered the same ground faster, although not by much, but never in such comfort. The only slight on the day is when I got home and took the panniers off the bike it wold seem that the left one is rubbing on the exhaust guard already leaving an unsightly mark.

Welcome ::008:: I have the factory panniers and I have been on some rough roads and they have never rubbed . You might want to check the mounting job. ::004::

Guys,
Thanks for the heads up on the exhaust pannier interface, which should never have happened. Popped in to the dealer and in was whipped straight into the workshop.

The problem was the pannier rack had been assembled arse first so to speak. So they replaced the exhaust shield, and supplied a new right hand pannier (bit excessive if you ask me) and new brackets. Voila tip top can’t complain superb service. But then again that is all I have experienced from this dealer, so long may it continue.

BTW totally forgot about the S & T modes, doesn’t she go well in the S mode? All gruff and grunt, hmm where have I experienced that before in S mode?
