My buddy took his Tenere in for it's 600 mi service and I agreed to give him a ride home.
That favor cost me $14,600 as there is now a brand new Tenere in my garage!
I've been contemplating the purchase and since the GSA is sold and I have what sounds like a solid buyer for my RT, I thought what the heck. Since it already had the full Yamaha engine guards on, I paid the $500 for them. So my OTD price was $15,100 and 20% off parts and accessories. I'll add the heated grips for $370 at the first service.
Can't wait to put some miles on it.

Definitely more expensive than what you were thinking I'll bet, or, maybe not. It was a seed in your head and you volunteered to go to the dealer so you can find an excuse to purchase it! ::015:: Congratulations. Where about are you in SoCal and where did you purchase from if you don't mind my prying. We are going out for an evening off road adventure tonight if you are interested in coming out.

I happen to know that guy that conned you into the ride to the Tenere shop and I also know that after a half a dozen or so GS BMW's he's finally found the perfect ride!
BTW ... thanks for lunch!

HAHA same thing happened to me. I was out riding my VFR on cloudy chilly day and decided to stop into the Yamaha dealer to kill some time before I went home. I walked right past the tenere at first. It was tucked in between a KTM and a Wee. I did not expect to see a super tenere sitting at the Yamaha dealership that is just a few miles from the beach. I had enough self control to go home and think about it. Well, I knew full well I was going to buy it the next day. So I thought about it, went back the next day and the rest is history.

Congrats on your new bike Fire guard. What color did you get? Bought mine there too, good people. Just keep an eye on the service department though.

Lot's of good Super Tenere riding around these parts!

Got the blue one.
What issues did you have in service?
I decided to take the Super T in for the first service to have them look it over real good and to have the documentation in-case of any future warranty issues. Afterward I was wiping the bike down and noticed that they used the wrong oil drain plug washers (used final drive crush washers on the oil drain plugs), and there were some other not-so-critical items such as the oil level was low and they did not check the spokes like I asked. So at that point I re-serviced the bike myself. Mainly it was the washers that bugged me because they are torqued to a value and so could not trust the work.

Maybe it was a new person that worked on it that day and so this was unusual, but I would check their work as much as possible or specify a mechanic that you know there to work on your new bike.

Thanks
Good thing about this bike is after the 600 mi dealer service, I hope I don't have to take it back until 24k mi.

Welcome welcome and enjoy-!
I bought my XTZ12 down south in Redondo Beach at a well known dealer and have never gone back to them - (never will-!!)
I looked at 1000 Oaks Pwr Sports and kinda wish I had bought it there, anyway that is all in the past now.
I found a couple of guys I like for service in Culver City for what it's worth. Take a look at their website but it might be to far a ride for you ...

If they used the crush washers like the ones on the final drive, you don't have much to worry about. I have been using those for a number of oil changes and they work just fine. Loosen just a bit and retorque. Problem solved.. Now go ride.. ::025::
