Is it me or do these engines make some noises? At a stop light there is ticking of different tones going on! I am usually paranoid coming off of years of Honda ST1100/1300's. Help me understand.

Right there with you Jeff. I posted a thread a while back about engine noises, harmonics and vibrations. Seems we all have it so must be normal. Seems to he much better as it breaks in though.

Hey Jeff, some of those noises will go away when you remove that baffle. ::025::

yes - the things make some interesting sounds - I keep telling people this is the first parallel twin I've owned & the cross plane crankshaft adds to it. Some interesting vibration regions on acceleration.........there are times when the engine is relatively unloaded that it seems electric. All in all, I am very happy with it, have only take it on a 250 mi ride as my longest to date, but see that it is a real distance machine & look forward to a couple major road trips ::021::

Mine was pretty quiet till I installed the H&B skidplate, now it has some harmonics and echos little noises back at me. Sorta like being in a 55 gallon drum.

Yup, Blue is unquestionably the quietest color, as well.

My Black bike sounds like a John Deere combine at full note. It is music to my ears. I took my earplugs out just so I can enjoy it ::001::

Certain accessories mounted on certain blue bikes seem to make annoying sounds endlessly, and have no known fix. :(

Earplugs, nuff said. You can drive yourself crazy worrying about the sounds a cycle engine makes.

The syncopated cacophony is music to my fading hearing ::001::

Skidplates in general tend to funnel extra noise up at the rider, especially if the plate is relatively big.

i always wear my earplugs when riding. The ticking just sounds like a valve ticking.

funny you should mention it. I just thinking the same thing about my ST1300, and that motor was the smoothest sounding that I ever heard.

You have it backwards. Blue makes this bike "quieter", not the other way around.

It's a noisy engine. Dry sump motors are a bit like that.

Doesn't anyone remember some old air cooled YAMAHA's?

Sounded like they had no oil at all most of the time. ???
