Is it just me or does this bike not engine brake a whole lot. Maybe it has to something to do with keeping the rpms down during break in but this thing just doesnt slow down like any other bike I have had when the throttle is chopped. I find myself needing a lot more brake than what i am used to. Is it just that the bike is heavier or I need more RPMs

dastard,

i have found there is good engine braking going on, even under the 4k rev limits. I can't imagine when i can run it to 8k and let it brake from there down to 6k, then back up again coming out of a corner!!!! Now that will be fun!!!!

For me I love the way I can clutch, blip the gas on this bike and down shifting scrubbing off speed without chirping the tire making it so smooth coming into turns. This motor mated with this transmission makes it a dream for me on the tight stuff. Mine seems to scrub off speed well chopping the throttle, enough that if my wife is not ready for it slams into me when riding two up. It is not as much as my FJR but that I think is because of 4 pistons and not a 270 deg motor?

Hmmm, I thought the decel engine braking was pretty fantastic. Then I decided I'd better still touch the brakes so the cagers will know my intentions.

Gotta say I like the engine braking as well. I've come off some pretty steep gravel/rock roads and was impressed how the big girl kept everything under control without touching the brakes.

Coming off a 4 cylinder, it's nice to have the engine braking of the twin.

As I mentioned in another thread, I really like the level of engine braking on this bike. Much less engine braking my V twin Super Hawk. It is so easy to to downshift smoothly on a tight, knarly road that it makes riding those types of roads loads of fun.

I agree with the positive impressions regarding engine braking. I find myself using the brakes mostly to let cagers know I am braking...the engine braking is smooth, predictable and fun.

I had exactly the same experience today. It was fantastic how well she kept the speed low without having to touch the brake. I also realised that the ABS on this bike is amazing. Helped me out of a couple of tight spots today where I needed to slow down very quickly!

I find my self just touch the brakes at a light to let the cagers know I am stopping. When I do use the brakes I only pull the front since it is unified. But when I pull the front and then hit the back the bike stops on a dime. I think the brakes are amazing as well. Someone else said the the engine and trans on this bike are messed perfectly, I have to concur on this also. I never had a bike that shifted so smoothly up or down.

I always one finger the front brake lever when under heavy engine braking. I learned on the FJR and The Monster that they will slow down dramatically and catch the four wheeled populace unawares.
