I thought I'd check this morning what the cold start was like for this mystery bike, fired up a treat
But then I noticed - something else on the missing list

No fan

There are a couple on evilbay but I'm trying to get this bike over the line on a budget
Anyone know how fat/deep the original fan is? any idea on Wattage?
Does it get much use?

Cheers Ian

have you got the metal frame that the fan fits into still attached to the rad by anychance as xt1200 fans are very rare and expensive
but if your xt1200 fan ever fails you can remove it from the frame work and put a MT-09 fan in its place as thet are cheap cheap compared and plenty about

FJR fan ( and frame ) that'll do me, really appreciate the tip :)
the fan is ok, i think people took the fjr fan out of the fjr frame, and put the fjr fan in the xt1200 frame but if it comes with a frame offer it up to the rad see what you can do

Just of note, it's common on the Super Ten for a drop to the left side to push the fan into the radiator and jam the fan, causing it to burn out if this isn't noticed and corrected. Damage to fins as well, sometimes enough to cause a leak. Check the rad for damage and use some caution on your spacing of the fan blades to the rad, keeping the shroud tight for efficiency.

This is one reason you see crash bars on bikes not really ridden off road.

An FJR fan won’t be plug and play, you’ll have to change the connector as they are different but it’s only 2 wires so no real difficulty
yes

the mt-09 fan is the same the 2 wire plug is different but as you say its easy to re plug or wire 2 wires together for a fan thats a 1/5th of the price of the xt1200, what i like about the mt-09 fan is on ebay for relatively new ones there cheap if mine ever fails bare in mind i have the frame i,ll go mt-09

Just quickly, where is the fan plugged into?
the lead off the fan goes under the front of the tank and infront of the airbox,
when you lift the front of the tank up the airbox is under neath, in front of the airbox theres a part of the frame that goes across the bike the plug that the fan plug goes into runs along that frame

is it a black plug with white inside Rob?
colour wise i can,t remember i went in there awhile back when my fan was not working, the 2 pin black plug off the fan runs under the tank front and airbox front there ios a part of the frame there to, the plug the fan plugs into runs along that front frame its held in place on the frame with a grommet that is plugged into the back part of the frame it is the only electric cable that runs along that frame

if you look at the 8th picture down of this frame at the front where the steering head bearings go back from that hole theres a long tubular bar
runs across the frame that tublular bar on the rad side left has a hole in the back of it where the electric cable and plug for the fan goes
