So I got "the call" from my local Yamaha dealer, went over to pick up the ST. After only 10 months!! ;D

First ride, down to the SoCal coast and up around a selection of Palos Verde peninsula's tight and open twisties. After adjusting the windscreen to the topmost position and rotating the bars forward a bit, everything feels just right.

Immediately I noticed the smooth and linear torque, and the light, nimble steering. The suspension is just Cadillac-like over all kinds of rough roads, bumps, freeway stutter, you name it...absolutely flawless control. The brakes are super-sensitive and I need to get used to their strong initial bite.

It's a bit wider up top than I'm used to, and I have mild "mirror anxiety" when I split lanes...but those Bark Buster-like handguards will remove most mirrors without any problem if push comes to shove >:D

The dealer lost the manual and is ordering a new one for me, so I don't really know the bells and whistles yet. Where's the gear indicator?

Overall I'm SUPER satisfied with the ST! I really didn't think the bike would be this good. It's like a sport bike with long-travel suspension more than a offroader, but I feel like it'd do really well there as well. Off to Baja to give it the stick!!

Are you the guy who clipped my truck mirror the other day?

Someone probably left it in the service dept.'s shithouse. :))

So the California guys are getting their st's, that's great!

Interesting that the dealer lost the owners manual, doesn't everything come in a baggie?

I'm still waiting. Got the serial no. But no bike. I'm hoping this week.

No gear indicator on these.

Got mine on the 29th too! Coincidentally, it would also have been my grandfather's 104th birthday. He's the one who bought my first mini-bike back when I was a little kid...*sigh*

Looks like SoCal bikes all came in the same day! My dealer was pretty clueless about this model...installed the windshield holder brackets backwards, didn't know where to find the tool kit etc. I just hope the bike was put together properly.....

Whats with the manuals? A forklift pierced the side of the shipping crate and damaged the front fender on mine and according to the dealer the owners manual was destoryed.
Delevered 7/29/2011. First impression are good!
You often get what you pay for. There are several large pieces of painted carbon steel and fastners on these bikes that are going to be rusty in my climate in no time.
Our members from down under are way ahead of us in out fitting there bikes.
At first glance there are five pieces I would machine from alumimium to replace the carbon steel parts. (Areospace machinist)
Teneres will probably have more cast Aluminium parts in the future.
The throtle responce across the lower end of the riding range is perfect for the forestry roads and areas that I want to explore locally.

Curiously, the bikes are built in a coastal area (all of Japan). You'd think they would do things a little differently. You could possibly offset some of your production expenses if you produced and supplied upgrade parts to the folks around here. Just a thought.
