Considering 2014 St.. Is the clutch hard

I ride a 2014 and do not notice any hard or difficult with the clutch. Only problem I have found is the windshield does not provide coverage if there is any wind.
Do you mean requires significant effort?
I've got 6 years on a Gen1. However, I have the Gen 2 clutch basket and the Barnet plate and stiffer springs.
I even have the stubby (short) clutch lever, which adds to the necessary effort.
Indeed the clutch requires more finger-strength than any of my other bikes, but it is so sweeet and hydraulic feeling.
I admit that I am tempted as I deteriorate biologically, to go back to a longer lever. Mostly because of off-road miles.

First off - Welcome aboard with your first post. You might post over in the intros area. That way, if you need help we'll know your basics or are talking about local features (snow, police, etc) it'll help in context.
Anyway, the Tenere clutch is very typical big-bore Yamaha in not being as light as many bikes, but it's going to depend what you came from to have a relative comparison.

My 2012 Tenere and my 2004 ST1300 required similar clutch effort. But now when I go from my 2016 R1200RT, with it's very easy to use clutch, back to the Tenere it seems quite stiff. But it only takes a few miles and it seems normal again.

I haven't noticed that the clutch is any harder to pull than any of the dozen or so other bikes I've owned and it's not a common complaint here on the forum.

Thanks all. Maybe it is just an adjustment thing on this one Used 2014 I am looking at. Supposedly, this dealer takes testing their used bikes seriously so I assume it isn't broken. Right now, I am torn between this used 2014 ST and a new 2014 Suzuki Vstrom. Prices are almost exactly the same, but the ST has 10k miles on it.

It's not an overly stiff clutch, that is for sure. It's actually pretty easy. Lubing the lever pivots may be in order for a used motorcycle. On my 2012 I didn't lube, and really didn't notice as it was gradual, but the lever got finally to a point that it was evident that something was not right. What a difference a little lube can make.
10K miles is barely broken in on these bikes. Use the mileage to negotiate the price lower. Does it happen to have YES warranty, or what warranty will the dealer provide? Tires new? As I learned, having bought a used ES with some miles, you will be closer to the first valve check at 26K+. (How close depends on how much you plan to ride.) Mine will be due at the next oil change. First planned dealer maintenance, as that is just above my DIY comfort level.cavenger said:

I am not known for finger strength but I find it manageable and often don't think about it until there is a traffic jam, a long one, then I began to notice the effort.
Like said, lube the joints. Mine was squeeky when I bought it (been left sitting in the dealers for 3 years). Some silicone lube made it quiet and smooth again. I had the fluid changed, and it improved a little.

Out of all the bikes that I've owned in the past, both hydro and cable clutch... the S10 is pretty much exactly what I would expect from a hydro clutch. I would consider it "Normal" feeling.

RE: VStrom vs S10. If you do any gravel/dirt the S10 is the only way to go + its a better quality machine all round with more options.
