As all trips do, this one started off with it's own issues. From the annoying month and a half of locating a front tire to installing my fork seals and having a piece of latex glove cause a severe leak 2 days before leaving to back spasms. All things that make you think it's probably best to call it and plan to do it later. I pressed on.
Day 1: I essentially just rallied to Fargo, ND. It was a little over a 1000 miles. Weather was great and my hate for Chicago traffic is still high.
Day 2: Fargo, ND to Calgary was 970 or so with stops. The border crossing was smooth for once. I still don't understand why they ask what you do for work and then get confused when you say electrical gigolo. Anyways, this is where I picked up the lady so her suffering could commence.
Day 3: Calgary to Jasper to Hinton 300 or so miles. We kept it relatively light and went through Jasper. Visually it's an amazing stretch, the traffic and construction on the other hand were painful. Highway 1 just after Banff went to one lane and the traffic was at a standstill for hours. A little creative navigating and we managed to get off onto 1A. This proved to be the right answer. At some point we passed some people probably 6ft from a black bear trying to take a photo. And here I thought I was dumb for riding semi-unprepared to Alaska....
Day 4: Hinton to Fort Nelson about 575 miles.
At this point I'm starting to grow weary of people and their inability to pass slow moving rental campers. I don't understand the psychology of going from 10kmh over the speed limit to 15kmh under and forming a 10 car conga line of impassable cars only to magical discover their throttles the second a passing lane appears. Smoke from the was heavy to the west. Also got hit with some marble sized hail about 60kms out of Fort Nelson for about 5 or so minutes which really made me question my decision to forgo riding gear.
Day 5: Fort Nelson to Whitehorse 590ish miles. Passed a lot of wild life on this. Some decent scenery.
Day 6: Whitehorse to Fairbanks another 590 miles....This section was loaded with wildlife, even more so on the return trip. The road from Destruction bay to Northway Junction was a mixed bag of bad asphalt, tons of hard dips, rough patch work, stretches or gravel repairs ( some perfectly fine to maintain speed and others that would be heavy, loose gravel) and one lane construction. I road this section probably way harder than I should've.
Day 7: Fairbanks to Denali and back to Fairbanks 250 miles. I had planned on doing the ride to prudhoe bay but lost all motivation once we decided it was probably in our best interest to ride home vs heading south to Seattle. Either way, Denali was cool and I wish I could have road deeper into the park but something about having to interact with people and take a bus in lost me. Tire started looking funky too but multiple parties assured me it was normal wear.
Day 8-14: 3900 miles home. Shot through the U.P. so the lady could see a troll.
