Changing air filter

Do you have a question about the air filter? It's fairly strait forward to get to, once you lift the tank up. There is a hidden screw under the black rubber plug in the center of the air box. You have to pull the plug out, then remove the screw down in the bottom of the hole there. It's a ~1" diameter plug.

Thanks for the ADV rider link, I'm also a member over there, for some reason I can't see any of the pictures even though I'm logged in. Supposedly i could flip the tank up far enough to remove the air filter without disconnecting the hoses ? I hate to disconnect the hoses because it looks like trying to reconnect them could be a BIG PROBLEM. Other than that yes it looks like a pretty easy job. I have the plastic off and the tank flipped up but the hoses seem to short to get it up high enough to remove all the screws holding the air box cover in place.

Release the overflow hoses from under the bike then leave attached to the tank, no need to remove from tank and when replacing make sure that the hoses do not kink.

Hmm, first, that thread link is to this forum, not ADV. (and was a discussion from 2010 with a 5 year gap between posts) Not too many pictures there to begin with. No one here had bikes when that thread was started.

Second, it's not a big problem to disconnect the vent/overflow hoses, but as has been mentioned, there is no reason to do this. Un-do the hoses down below by the front of the engine, below the side mounted radiator. They are just pressed into a clip there and pull out easily to the side. Just go look, two rubber hoses sort of stand out on the left side. The clip that holds them is on the engine cover.

You will want something to prop or hold the tank up. I use a bungie cord hooked to the front of the tank and the rear rack. Two bolts, one on either side of the tank to remove to get the tank up. Don't forget to loosen the pivot bolt at the rear. This will make re-installing the tank much easier. It is not uncommon to have to push the tank forward when re-installing it, so that the bolts line up with the holes on the sides.

Yes the link leads to another thread on this board with one picture of the air box of a different model Yamaha not a Tenere.

I got the job completed, it was pretty easy once I followed the hoses from the tank down to the left front of the engine where they are slipped into a clamp to hold them in place, just slip both hoses out of the clamp and there is plenty of slack to tilt the tank back as far as needed, thanks everyone ! These forums are great help for the do it yourselfer !

I see what you meant about the ADV pictures. Again, 2010 post, so no surprise the pic links are dead. And the OP was in Australia. Mostly the same bike, but some differences. Turn signals are smaller, and while I have never been able to confirm it, an Aussie I ran into with a Super Ten at home, swore the tank bolts were the same as the FJR, two on top by the steering head, not one on each side as we have in the US for the Super Ten.
