hi everyone, ive just changed my cct today it all seemed to go well, but ive been trying to release the cct rod by whacking the tensioner arm, i cant seem to get any movement at all, is it possible that it released its self as i was doing the bolts up. the chain seems to be tight ish. any help would be great as im meant to be off on the bike tomorrow for a weekend trip. and i want to get it back together urgently.
many thanks pete

Because of the risk if the tensioner does not extend, I'd suggest removing it to see if it extended and go at it again. There's a thread with photos for how to re-cock it if needed.

Good idea to keep a block or something in place to keep tension on the chain.

Before doing it again, a simple solution is to get a little mirror and flashlight and you will be able to see clearly if it is released. I just did the same and posted a few days ago about it.

I was thinking of installing a manual CCT, if/when I do, I'll take some pics and a video where possible. I like the idea of blocking the tensioner rail before removing the oem tensioner. Maybe a before and after sound track of the new CCT as well.

Whish I could post a pic, I made up a small jackboot and installed it before removing the old CCT.

You got to leave the bike in gear and on the side stand so the motor wont turn. In my case the side cover came off to ensure the new cct was released. Its almost impossible to jump teeth.

It's good to read that "it's almost impossible to jump teeth." My bike didn't quite get that. During a valve check, when the valve cover was off, I replaced the CCT with a manual one. I had secured the cam chain to the sprockets with zip ties, I thought, but apparently they weren't tight enough. On removing the OEM tensioner I heard a clunk and yep, the intake cam sprocket had jumped one or two teeth. Since the valve cover was off and the electrical panel was pulled back at that point, I could observe the alignment marks on the cams and the sprockets and easily correct the problem. It's a cautionary tale.

I'm just glad someone far more mechanically inclined installed mine.

I think Jaxon uses a method where the chain does NOT ever lose tension, as he removes the cct.
Sounds similar to the fellas above that put a "block" in to keep tension on the chain.
Basically, the chain never "feels" the absence of a tensioner.

That nut and bolt looks like a very good idea to hold the chain damper against the chain while removing the cam chain tensioner and installing a manual one. ::008::
And yes I can confirm the intake cam sprocket can jump teeth on the cam chain if precautions aren't taken to keep tension on the chain while removing/reinstalling cam chain tensioners.
