Brake Lever adjustment

Wasn't sure which forum to put this in so hopefully I chose right. I have a question on the front brake lever adjuster. To me, there doesn't seem to be any difference whether I put the adjuster on 1 or 4. At 4, which I'm guessing moves the lever closer like most bikes, even though manual doesn't say, it still seems like way too much distance to get the right feel. Is this normal? Has anyone swapped to a good aftermarket to correct this or is it just something to live with?

Have you gone from 1 to 4, or 4 to 1? Sometimes small changes are hard to feel. I can't remember right this moment what number I'm on, but that's what I did before I even left the lot. One extreme to the other. Besides, my clutch numbers are reversed from everybody else.

I have pretty big hands and the adjustments don’t seem to make much difference, maybe the adjustment has more effect for folks with smaller hands ?

Ive always noticed a fair amount of adjustment with oem levers. You can feel it by pulling the lever away while adjusting the dial and letting it drop back. You can feel it drop closer or farther from the bar. I have smaller hands and generally run them close to the bar as it gives me leverage on the lever as I'm a two finger hover rider.

I did run ASV levers for awhile and their set up gives you infinite adjustment, but I did return back to oem levers.

Absolutely. No matter the setting, the difference is so small I barely notice. My other bikes there is a much more noticeable difference between settings. I wouldn't mind putting on an aftermarket set, but they get pricey.

Makes me wonder if someone did something to the pin and socket set up on the adjustment of the lever so it cant change positions. I will change mine from summer to winter so I can have two or three fingers on the lever and one or two on the grip as well. With winter gloves i need it further out. From 1 to 4 makes a big change on my levers.

If you experience that big a difference I'd say there definitely is something up with mine. I'll have to take it apart and check it. Thanks.

I was curious and measured. Theres a difference of 1" between the furthest #1 and closest #5 positions. My gen 1 has 5 positions for the brake lever (4 on clutch lever).
Mine doesn't feel like it's more than an eighth of an inch. I'd love if mine had that much adjustment. Think I'll take it apart and see if it's gummed up or something.

Yeah, something definitely wrong there. Weird, because I can't really think of anything that would wear out in there.

Don't longer levers have more sweep? Movement? It's physics. Shorter levers require more effort that a longer lever.

I know, right? I've got fair sized hands too, 2xl to 4xl depending on the glove. Tried aftermarket levers, and they help some, but my old s10 had more travel.
I removed my ASVs and went back to oem. Ive never ran into an issue with ASVs on bikes and have run them on a few. But for some reason I immediately felt a substantial lack of bite with the brake running them on my S10.
