One problem here in Sweden is the incurance costs. They are insane if the effect is high on the bike and if there is an s(as in sports) in the modelname, the insurancecompanies are obviously not intrested in having them as objects. A fz8 I think will cost around 11000 kr (divide with around 6 for dollars) a year ??? in her age. The factors are age, living in the city and effect. A versys 650 for example is "only" half that. No wonder the average age of new bikeowners here is (someone correct me if I´m wrong) 52 years... :mad:How is it with this in the states?

Same factors, plus driving record. An under 21 with an accident and a couple of tickets probably can not get insurance or needs to join a very expensive State "pool." They may actually pay more than your 11,000 kr.

Even without that, our rates for identical risk (age, location, bike style, cc, record) are MUCH better than in nearly any other country. I'm grandpa age with a good record, living in a small town, and pay a bit under $300/year for a DL1000 and the Super Tenere combined.

another little thing here is that if you pay late, the authorities slap you with a fine of 100 kr( a lttle less than 15 dollars) a day...can be pretty expensive if you´re not a bookkeeper mindwise and you have young kids ::002::

went to a big bikestore with the daughter. Had alook at some different bikes. What she´s choosing between now are KTM SMT and Triumph 800 xc...she´s got taste I think. Wonder where she got that ::)

Nice choices, servicing / repair costs & hassle factor would have me wishing she goes with the Triumph ::008::

Well, after lots of discussions, yesterday she got her a little Versys 650 abs -09. A blue (allmost same as my tenere) with low milage on the odo and in close to mint condition. Nothing close to Ktm smt or Triumph 800 , certainly not pricewise :) but a nice little bike I think and a bit gruntier than what she had and certainly better for some touring. I havn´t had a chance to ride it yet - snow mixed with rain - but looking forward to that. Thankyou all for interesting advice and thoughts on the subjekt ::26::

I came off a Versys for the Tenere. Thought that bike was a ton of fun. Great commuter!

I tested a Versys 650 a couple of years ago on behalf of the Mrs, she went for the Strom based on looks, but the Versys was great IMO.

I have the same engine in my 2009 ER6F and it is very nice, of course lacks low down Ooomph compared to the S10, but the fuelling is really wonderful - something I have come to appreciate during my winter commutes, it just comes on power from any revs with no jerkiness (take note Yamaha!) and is so easy to ride on cold, wet and greasy roads. The mid-range is adequate to keep ahead of other traffic and overtake without having to scream the little motor and after a while I got used to the revvy feel at motorway cruising speeds.

We both hate the gearchange on my ER6F (gear lever seems to be out of proportion and impossible to get into a decent position) but I do not recall the issue on the Versys I rode, although I think it was a 2012 model - but the riding position of the Versys may just work better for me?

An ideal choice IMO, I hope she loves it ::008::
