Good morning..

I've got a little trip I'm putting together for early April that is going to start and end in the Asheville, NC area. I live near Roanoke, VA.. one rider is coming from Wilmington, NC and the other from Kennesaw, GA. Like I said we're planning to start in Asheville and work our way into VA via the BRP and possibly into WV for a day or two as well. I'm wondering if anyone may have any suggestions on some cools loops in the Asheville area? Currently the plan is take the BRP from Asheville to Roanoke, VA (stopping at Mt. Mitchell).. and ride it as far north as possible from Roanoke. We'll do the reverse on the way back down and then part ways to head back to our respective garages.

I'm open to all suggestions, thanks! ::26::

The best paved road riding can be found on the roads that cross the BRP. A detour over Roan Mtn is kinda cool.

Not sure if you will be able to see the roads, but here you go. I tried to take a photo of some loops on my map that are in the general direction you are heading in. You should at least be able to get an idea. Have a great time!

A trip into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park would get you on some great gravel roads. At least one of them is one-way, and the last time we rode it we saw mommy bear a three cubs, some elk, and so on. Recommended for weekdays, when you'll have the place to yourself.

Here ya go, I ride this off and on again. Pretty easy but it has it's moment. BB go arounds on the tougher sections. Mostly FS roads, lots of gravel.

Just did this dirt/gravel road a couple of weeks ago with 3 Super T's. Get a National Park Service Blue Ridge Parkway map and you will see an unnamed road that runs fron Linville falls area to the east intersecting with 126. Worth the effort. hit 126 then north to 181 and that will take you back to the parkway or when the dirt ends turn around and go back. And as another poster said, take the little roads that intersect the parkway and just ride.
