Bringing up an old thread here. I just removed mine yesterday. Those damn passenger handles have been getting in the way since I rode my bike home from the dealer. getting the right pannier has always been a pain with the latch. I really did not like the way my Backcountry 30 duffle set on my bike with the handles. It makes it harder to swing my leg over everything!!
Notice how the bag is almost folded in the middle. I had to stack my packing cubes on top of each other to make the bag fit. It's hard to see in the picture but I took off 6" or more off the height!!
Before:
I know I'm over packed with "just in case" stuff. I have 2 packing cubes filled. First cube has the lifting winch, small pulley, carabiner, prussic sized rope, small knot book, first aid kit, compass, emergency blanket/survival kit. Second packing cube has pre powdered and sealed spare front and rear tubes, wheel removal/tire changing tools, 2 Colby valves, truck quality plug/patch kit, tire pump, Earth-X jumper pack.
This is more like it!! The cubes set side by side now. Much cleaner look.
I have Touratech pannier racks so I simply pressed out the steel inserts from the handles and used them for the spacers. This bike is really coming together the way I want it. I'm still practicing my rolling mount/dismount technique on my Beta before I try it on this bike.
Look at how many inches these handles stick up!! I figured a good 4" off the base of the rack.
