another question regarding the installation of the mcct

Hi. I bought the graves unit and I have been doing some research before the installation. My question is if I really need to open the clutch cover. I know it is safer because tis the only way of keeping the chain tight while changing the cct. However, there are some who have done the changeover successfully without opening the clutch cover.
When reading the manual I noticed that there is a chance of aligning the K mark and not having the camshaft lobes in the right position and thats when the manual says to turn it 270 degrees more.
And then it says to align the T mark where the K mark was.
Anyone who did the job without opening the clutch case, what mark did you align with ??? Was it just luck??

Thanks a lot

Take off the clutch cover!! It's a 10 minute job and there is a 99 percent chance the gasket will be fine to reuse. (I have had the cover off three times with the original gasket still being used). It is not worth the risk of your cam sprocket jumping the chain. BEFORE you remove the OEM tensioner,, tie wrap your chain together (you can wrap around the guide, on the guide side of the chain, and the chain on the other) to keep tension on the chain when you remove the old tensioner. When you install the MCT, just finger tighten the bolt until it stops against the guide, and then tighten the locknut on the bolt. THEN remove the tie wrap you are using to hold tension on the chain, and you should be good to go. Install the clutch cover, and you're done.

How often do you tighten the manual cct? Every x miles or when you start hearing the rattling noise?

take the cover off, or risk the chain skipping a tooth, and having to take off the top cover to sort that out.

On both occasions, I installed the CCT with the valve covers off.

I installed the mcct yesterday pulling the clutch cover off. An easy task. I put a ratchet socket behind the chain guide (small amount of pressure to make it fit) and then installed the mcct. Adjusted the mcct in until the socket got loose and fell off by itself and then turned the mcct off a quarter of turn. I think is the best way of having the chain with same adjustment as before.

Thanks to your advice,

I did something similar but made a jack bolt and snugged up the CCT till it became loose.

For those wondering how often the manual cct needs adjustment. Survey says every 30k km. On mine anyways ::015::
