After seeing the Yamaha luggage, I opted not to get it. I want to get something more rugged but having trouble finding alternatives/deciding. Jesse luggage has been recommended. GIVI is likey excellent also - had it on my last bike for 200K+ km and it performed extremely well - i just don't like the shape.

My bike has to be a workhorse - I ride a lot.

What are others using?

Thanks.

i like the stock bags they look great fit great and im going to guess easily as robust as the givis but not as "strong" as those ugly ill fitting things that seem so popular these days ...

i am going to use two black 45 liter touratech zega pros side cases on my new 2012 raven super tenere . i will mount a 45 liter side case on both the left ( muffler side ) and also the right side . this is not as symmetrical or balanced looking as the more recommended arrangement --- 38 liter on the left and 45 liter on the right . but i carry enough gear around ( especially two arai xc ram helmets ) and i want to lock these items securely when the bike is parked . plus i will always carry four ten foot one inch thick locking cables and a full canvas motorcycle cover . plus two rain suits and a tool kit . so i need all the capacity that i can mount on the bike . i do not like the fact that side cases are basically ugly heavy and uncool looking but security gives me peace of mind . also i will be mounting the touratech black 25 liter top case with the new rapid trap quick release locking mechanism that can detach from the top luggage rack in ten seconds by using a key lock . this top case is more attractive to me because it is only seven inches tall and does not stick up too high on top of the bike which i prefer over tall top cases . the large 45 liter side cases will always be attaached to the super tenere . the top case will only be mounted during long excursions . thanks for listening .

You know the Jesse bags give you more capacity, for less width, right? 105 liters/35.5" vs 90L/??" (I'd guess over 41")

dear dcstrom

you might be on to something there with your comparison of the jesse side cases vs the 45 liter touratech zega pros . i am sure that both products are durable and well made . i appreciate the slimmer profile and larger capacity of the jesse side cases . i wonder if the left ( muffler ) jesse side case is wide enough to store an aria xc ram open face helmet . the black jesse bags would look very good on my raven super tenere if they are wide enough to stash a helmet in each side . i have never actually placed an arai xc ram helmet inside a 45 liter touratech zega pro case but they are eleven inches wide so i am pretty sure my helmet will fit . the jesse cases are ten inches wide . that may still be enough interior width to store a helmet inside . there is a photo on the jesse site that shows a helmet stashed inside the left ( muffler ) side case ( but this photo is on the bmw page using safari cases ) . maybe they will do the job just as well . decisions . decisions . there are so many great side cases to choose from that making the correct choice is stressful -- but fun .

Yeah I'm almost certain you won't get a helmet in the Jesse - I'd be very dubious about getting one in Touratech too. If that's your main criteria I think you're going to have a very limited range of bags to choose from. Maybe some of the biggest side-opening Givis?

I know Givi and probably others have a top box that will take two helmets - why not get one of those, then you can get some skinnier side bags?

dear dcstrom

i called the touratech headquarters in seattle and discussed the issue of storing an arai xc ram helmet in the touratech zega pro 45 liter side case . the helpful and courteous and knowledgeable sales guy that i talked to said that he believes the touratech zega pro will indeed store a normal motorcycle helmet . he said one of his associates that works at touratech uses a full face arai helmet and stashes his helmet in a touratech 45 liter zega pro side case when his bike is parked at their seattle facility . the arai xc ram open face helmet is not quite as large as the full face model so i am now confident that the 45 liter zega pro is large enough for my needs . anyhow we will soon see as i will have the raven super tenere and the touratech zega pros and two arai xc ram open face helmets ( all now on order ) by the end of october . if none of this stuff fits together in perfect harmony then i will simply dump the whole rig in the hudson river .

+1 on the Caribou....they work great, are functional and bullet-proof.

My Jesses arrived today, 2 days earlier than expected... Seems to me the "hammermill" finish is a bit smoother than my previous set, which I think is a good thing.

Installed my Touratech bags today. Very easy to do. 38/45 L. I can fit my Arai full face helmet in the 45 L - helps to have a small head : ) Liked the look, finish, quality, ease of installation....

Now to road test them!
