I have a question: Is the 2012 Super Tenere that is coming to the US considered a 1st year bike or a 2nd year bike. I know it was released in Europe, but not sure how long ago. Will the bike have the bugs worked out of it or would some people avoid it because it is considered a 1st year bike? I am going to order anyway, I was just curious.

Thanks!

I don't think they will be considered 1st edition. Those were marked with a sticker that said first editioon back in 2010.

First year for US but third year of the bike.

The majority of issues, uhhh, one, have been sorted. That was a rear rack issue that has already been resolved. I would imagine the only thing we here in the US will have to contend with may be the fuel mapping based on emissions requirements. This is to say that there may be a dip or soft spot in the power curve. A big may though as Yamaha, in my experience, do a good job mapping their fueling programs.

Of course, us in California look like we will be carrying some extra "stuff" but it's no big deal in the grand scheme.

I've been told that we in the US are getting what is considered to be a second edition. The differences will be some relatively minor product improvement tweaks since first intro, and splitting the product line, so that some other foreign markets have a hi versus low packages.

We get the low line, as US customers seem to be all over the map on what we want for options, so we get the model that needs options to buy separately. Outside of the US, the customers are easier to group into those who want basic and those who want a loaded platform, as there are substantially ore of the latter. BMW has recognized this for a long time.

+1. Running the bike real lean to meet emissions standards can lead to this. The good news is fuel maps are usually re-loadable, and though I don't think there's been much talk about it yet I'm sure there will be user-created maps to fix any issues.
