http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=638662 In November ten Dual Sporters rode our BMW GS's, Yamaha's, Kawasaki's, Suzuki's and KTM's; 1K miles of pavement to/from El Paso, Texas to Creel, Chihuahua Estado (the motos 400cc and smaller were trailered to Creel; I rode my GS, with KTM 950!); then 1k miles of rough dirt exploring all the various separate canyons that make up Barrancas del Cobre, 3 river crossings of Rio Urique and 4 of Rio Batopilas. Gnarly Ass Dirt Riding!

Looks like you had a great trip, I did much of the same trip five years ago. Any problems at the border crossing I hear things are getting pretty out of control there? Hope our Tenere's arrive soon!! Here is a Smugmug link http://katoum.smugmug.com/Terrys-Dual-Sport-Rides/Mexico-2005 to my Mexico 2005 trip you might recognize some of them, there's a lot of pictures, so feel free to flip through the pages. I'm riding the Black 950, looking forward to doing it again on the Super10, maybe we can get together for a future trip .

Great Copper Canyon pictures Terry, I really enjoyed them; Thank You, it is definitely the same riding territory as we covered down in Mexico on our most recent trip. I have been riding motorcycles down into Mexico since October of 1968. I enlisted in the US Army on 10/23/68 and spent the two weeks prior to leaving for Fort Ord, CALI riding my 1964 Norton Atlas 750 in Baja California Norte.

Except for my 2 years of overseas Army duty, I've been in Mexico on a yearly motorcycle trip ever since! Mexico is now more dangerous than it was in 1968, but I've never, ever had a single problem!!!

I'll be 63 years old for the 2012 Copper Canyon ride, with bad knees and a past heart attack, so I am going with a Suzuki DRZ 400 for my next Barrancas del Cobre ride. Lighter is easier for this old guy!

Katoum, I'm retired/worthless and I'll ride a dual sport to Guatemala and Mexico at the drop of a sombrero. beemerdons@aol.com Cell: 480-440-4666 Contact me when you want to plan a Mexico ride.

eemsreno, I'm also riding to Alaska once again in June of 2012. I worked in AK each Summer as a Pipefitter for 5 years. 1983-1988, as soon as the snow would clear enough to ride either my Harley-Davidson FLH or my BMW R80RT, I'd ride North to Alaska. I primarily did the piping systems at Pump House #4 just North of Atigun Pass in the Brooks Range.

I also did piping systems for Alyeska Corp. Warehouses in Eagle and at other Alyeska locations. Viking Mech. even sent me out to Attu and Unalaska in the Western Aleutian Islands to install piping systems in Native American School Houses; but I was forced to leave the bikes in Fairbanks and take the work truck out to the AK Near Islands on the ferry though.

As soon as the "termination dust" would start to fall from the sky, I'd turn to my Union Steward and say: "Get me my money!" As beautiful as Alaska is, this Desert Rat just can't handle damn snow!

I made mucho dinero: With all the overtime in AK and I would always ride home on "The Blue Canoe", Alaska Marine Highway; bike in the hold of the ship and Papa Chuy drunk up in the saloon; Ha!!

4 of us at http://www.fjrforum.com are already committed to making this ride next June. I'll be taking my 14 year old Son Seth with me on our Super Tenere. I'll also post all the details right here!

You and Your Son Eric will have a fantastic time! I was fortunate I was able to take my then 80 year old Mother and my Son Seth then 4, to Alaska 10 years ago; Mom is now 90. She and Seth had an ever loving blast together. We went up for three weeks and I showed my Mom and my Son everything that I could think of. I am so very glad I did this, because now Grammy Stanley is bedridden most days with a live-in aide at our old family home. And sadly, she sometimes does not remember either Seth or I. Yet, I will show her pictures of the three of us up in Alaska a decade ago and her mind will come right back to her. It warms the hearts of we Stanley Boys!

No, I will be attending WeSTOC in Nelson BC in June.
http://www.westoc.ca/index.html

I have not attended any of the FJR events as I am still very active in the ST Owners Club (STOC), even though I have not owned one for the last 3 1/2 years, I do frequent the fjrforum, but not real active.

As for the AK trip on the SuperT, the dates have not been finalized, but there will be 4 of us (2 SuperT's and 2 KLR650's). The KLR riders are planning to trailer a good portion of the way. The 4 of us all live nearby here.

Thanks for the invite though!!!

Rod
