An Answer to all of the "Why should I buy a Tenere?" Threads...

Are these pictures of the road that would be unseen by any other bike than the Super Tenere?

    A Real Dirty Comparison Test

I hadn't seen that. Thanks. I don't think there is much in that two year old comparison that is relevant today. Two of the bikes have been updated extensively so will the outcome be the same? The comparison ride next weekend will tell for sure.

    A Real Dirty Comparison Test

Reading here that lots of you are voting the KTM will be the winner. I'm trying to go into this with an open mind, so I might have to be sequestered for the rest of the week. :D I have ridden the KTM 1190R last year in Europe but it was only on pavement and it was on the stock streetish tires...

    A Real Dirty Comparison Test

I think there might be some confusion here so I'll try to clear it up. The dirty comparison test this thread is about is a one day event where three of us will be switching between the new KTM, the borrowed LC GS and the Super Tenere. At the end of that day, I will pick which of the three bikes...

    A Real Dirty Comparison Test

This years big ride we are going on is a little over 15,000 kms of mostly dirt and has some really gnarly sections that go on for day after day without a break. That driveshaft will look pretty good to me when I'm exhausted at the end of a day and there is no chain maintenance to do.

    A Real Dirty Comparison Test

Like so many of you, I don't want to read a comparison test like MCN did of large dual sport bikes on pavement only. Although I understand that most of these types of bikes are bought for sport touring, commuting to work and riding down the odd gravel road, that is not what I want one for. I am...

    2014 Available in the U.S.

Fair enough, you make a valid point. It would be better to wait and see if others who have ridden the 2014 say the vibration issue has been fixed as well before declaring it a success.

    2014 Available in the U.S.

Sounds like the engine revisions Yamaha has done on the 2014 have indeed worked to exorcise the vibration that is being reported on the earlier models. Have to give Yamaha a ::008:: for that. When you say sharper and refined, what exactly do you mean? I'm hoping it means that buyers of the...

    MCN new S10 write up

Like you, I can't understand the need for others approval or endorsement of my purchases either. Should I feel bad if my brand of tv doesn't get the highest ranking in a review or if my truck didn't win truck of the year in a magazine? But the worst part of this type of thinking is the idea that...

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

I have ridden in the US many times. We have done three major back road trips in the past two years in the US. Because the GSs (or the KTMs for that matter) never had any problems even with the way they were abused on these trips, there was no reason to go to a BMW dealer. I've only been in three...

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

The BMW dealer in my town has motorcycles, riding gear, and tires on display as well as a parts and service departments. The Yamaha has same things. What makes the BMW dealer's sales area a boutique showroom and the Yamaha dealer's showroom not?

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

Thanks, that is a very generous offer but I'm in British Columbia. It would be great to experience a Super Tenere set up up for some proper dirty work. Sid

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

Thanks for posting that. Looks like fun but as a dirt rider first and a pavement rider second, I'll be spending my money on rims and suspension upgrades before engine modifications. One place where the Super Tenere has an advantage over the GS and the KTM 1190R is the 42,000 km valve...

    2014 Available in the U.S.

Seems to me a large dual sport bike would rarely need cruise control yet it's standard even on the base model, but heated grips are an option. I guess that kind of thinking comes from so many buyers of these large dual sport bikes only use them as touring bikes and then only when it's warm out...

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

No. Like I said in an earlier post, it's winter here. It will be another month or so until it's possible. I only decided to buy a large dual sport bike in early January. Have never even seen a Super Tenere out on the back routes I ride, so have only seen one in person on the dealers floor. I...

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

Because I never noticed any problems on the two cylinder engines in the KTMs or the GSs I have ridden, I doubt that I am sensitive to vibration. It is interesting to read that ejy712 says that the vibration on his Super Tenere is getting worse with mileage and feels it might be related to the...

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

Thanks for all the thoughtful responses. As far as whether or not I am influenced by my friends choices of bikes, I am not. Plus they don't care one bit what I buy either. They only responded to my questions and gave me their honest answers. You guys have spent months and in some cases years...

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

To answer the question of what I want to use the Super Tenere for, it isn't sport touring like most of the big Adventure bikes are generally used for. The six of us have all come from racing backgrounds and really do go "adventure touring" Last year we did the Utah and Colorado Backcountry...

Seeking Information on the Super Tenere

I will be purchasing a new Adventure bike very soon and would like to ask a few questions about the Super Tenere. I have narrowed it down to the Yamaha, a GS or the new KTM 1190R. I ride with several very experienced friends who upgraded to the large Adventure bikes a few years ago. I will be...

    Hello

Thank you for the welcome. I see now that this site has some of the same members as Advrider does. I will head over to the correct section of this site and ask a few questions I have about the Super Tenere. Hopefully those who like to ridicule and condemn products and people at every...
