Issues downshifting with 2012 Gen I model Super Tenere

I had downshifting issues with my 2012 after purchasing it with 40K miles. I did all the easy fixes first but the final fix was replacing all of the clutch plates...Maybe some steels were warped i didnt check.

    Pinging/ Detonating

Incase anyone is researching this, what I though was pinging turned out to be the cutch hub. The springs were sloppy loose when cold and I guess they expanded when warm. Sounded just like detonation in the right cylinder. I replaced the clutch hub with 2nd gen hub because of bad vibration at...

    Clutch Basket Remove/Upgrade/Installation

With 47K miles my new to me 2012 had such a bad vibration below 4K rpm it felt like the motor was coming apart under load and made bad noises. The dealer even noticed it when doing the idle/wiring recall. I wasn't sure the basket could cure such a mess but I replaced it and all is good :).

No idle and high idle problem

The wiring harness came in a few days before the trip, took it in on a Wednesday and they got it done by Friday. No issues for 2,700 miles. However, the vibration between 3K and 4K rpm was really bad. Ordered the revised clutch basket hoping that it will cure that.

    No start

Good tip, from now on a I will hit the kill switch if I need electrical power without starting it.

    No start

Ok I finally got a chance to look at it again. Pulled the FI fuse and hit the starter with the throttle open and I got a pop. Put the fuse back in and held the throttle open and cranked for a good 15 seconds and it hit a few times and then came to life. What a relief, its already in the mid...

    No start

I really can't remember since it was 3 weeks ago. The carwash is three miles away so I might have stopped it in the driveway when I got back and then fired it up to get it in the garage. I know I cycled the key a few times the previous weekend to see if the power outlet was getting power. Is...

    No start

I just tried to bump start it in 2nd gear going down my alley and nothing. When the bike came to a stop the fuel pump pressurized again. I'm starting to think that is where my problem is.

    No start

I can't believe this, I had the recall done on my 2012 that was acting up last month (high/low idle) then did a 2,700 mile trip over six days with no issues at all. I just put on a new front tire Saturday and removed the non operating power outlet on the dash as I'm planning on replacing it...

    Gen 1 new recall

I took mine to Maxim Motorsports. It was close to the house and they had done a few before. I wasn't going to do the recall until it started acting up. Something about cutting wiring harnesses that makes me nervous.

    Gen 1 new recall

I got the bike back today from the recall repair and the low/high idle issue appears to be cured. Now to worry about that noisy clutch basket.

No idle and high idle problem

I'm leaning towards going. The bike has had one hard start condition after the dealer doing the inspection left the key on. It had the jerky running condition like shown in the you tube video. When I got home and restarted it, it ran just fine then. I've been riding it to work every day and...

    Rotella T6 or T4

From the oil analysis I have seen, Rotella has less than zinc than motorcycle specific oils.

No idle and high idle problem

I'm about to take a 4,000 mile trip during the 1st week in May and my bike has been having the no-idle high-idle issue. The dealer has been trying to get the recall harness from Yamaha for several weeks now and I don't think it will get here in time. I'm debating going on the trip anyway. Has...

    Gen 1 new recall

Thanks, Maxim happens to be the closest to my house. Yep, ran the vin and recall is open.

    Gen 1 new recall

Well it looks like I need the wiring harness recall. Went to get my bike inspected Saturday and the guy left my key on after checking the mileage. I had a hard start condition that finally cleared and on my way home it bucked like bronco I had to ride the brakes to hold it down under 50mph...

    Wheel Bearings

It has been several years, it was one of the top brands like SKF or Koyo. The old Concours had undersized front bearing notorious for failing after 50K or so but the rear bearings rarely failed. Being small they were cheap. After looking around I've come to the same conclusion you did. At...

    Wheel Bearings

After finding all three bearings from three different sources, I've come to the conclusion that I would save a whopping $25. I will just order the OEM bearings and know they fit. Or get the All Balls kit and stuff it in my tank bag for emergencies.

    Wheel Bearings

I replaced some steering bearings on a XR250 Honda with All Balls and they were definitely lower quality. They worked just fine and I was completely satisfied for the price and for that application. For multistate traveling I want quality.
