Hi Rob, these were a stripped down, slightly sportier cruiser version of the Pan European ST1300, cracking bikes but they didn’t sell well. As the song say, “you just don’t know what you got until it’s gone”.

Yeah, that's what they replaced the ST13 with. Dumbest move that Honda has probably ever made. More and more police departments across the country were moving to the ST13. Harley and Beemer were being dropped due to maintenance cost, and the Honda was a perfect fit. I still think that the current generation of Gold Wing may have had something to do with the ST's demise. Yes, there was years between the discontinuation and new 'Wing generation, but the new 'Wing didn't get produced overnight being that it was a complete re-do. I still think the new 'Wing looks like a modernized and improved ST. It just doesn't make sense to drop a bike that had already began to corner a specific market.

The biggest issue was that in typical Honda fashion they in their daftness decided that owners wouldn’t want 125hp, but would easily settle for just 95hp:rolleyes:
If only they had the mind to carry over a lot of the mods to an updated ST1300. I actually really liked these and if they had carried the design tweeks to the ST would probably have one in my garage. But no chance with the lower power.

Is that a UK thing? Pretty sure ours were rated at 118hp. And mine would shut off at 120mph because of the crashes they had over there. 'Cuz it had plenty left when it would shut off.

It’s what we got yes, no idea if others got full power versions, be surprised if they did. Honda do it all the time. Hornet 900 with detuned Fireblade motor of around 100hp iirc, Firestorm motor in the Varadeo detuned to about 90 ish. And so on.

sorry looks like I exaggerated, 83hp according to this site

Compression Ratio: 10.8:1 ; Horsepower: 118/8000 KW(hp)/RPM ; Torque: 86/6500 lb-ft.
And then I found this. I didn't find anything anywhere showing the low HP/TQ.

My mistake. I thought you were talking about the ST. Gotcha. Well, it doesn't make sense. It's the same motor, why would they "detune" it? Unless that's how they got it to pass EURO 4. Yes, 4. The official reason that the ST was cancelled was that it couldn't pass EURO 4. But I wouldn't think lowering the HP would affect that. Unless they reduced the rpm range?

I owned a CTX (standard version, not the Deluxe) for a couple of years and really enjoyed it. I don't think Honda knew how to market it ("bagger?) and in typical Honda fashion it was way over-priced. I picked mine up with 9k miles on it for $6k (MSRP was around $17k) with some additional options (heated grips, center stand, tall windscreen) and I added a couple of things (USB ports and topcase). And it's styling was of the "either you love it or you hate it" variety... I thought it looked great. The people that own them almost universally would install a taller windscreen and a topcase and turn them into tourers... kind of a Goldwing Lite. Some odd design choices and you had to be very careful when working on it as the plastics were exceedingly fragile. Also substandard suspension. It was basically a parts bin bike but somehow worked. More of a styling exercise IMO.

I ended up trading it in for my S10 but I think if the CTX had a cruise control I might have kept it. Most comfortable stock seat of any bike I've ever owned and was a competent two-up machine.

I think it was a 1 year only bike for the US (2014)
I believe you're right. It was a just like the life span of the Yamaha SCR950 in 2017 which was a spin-off of the Bolt. Yamaha destroyed the SCR950 market by dumping these bikes to dealers at ridiculous prices. I had one that I traded in one the Super T to have something more suitable for road trips. I believe it had an MSRP of around $8700 and I bought mine in December of 2017 for about $5300 out the door, and others later paid even less.
