I have a set at home in North Carolina that I can measure for you, but I'm out of state right now. If you can wait til Friday I can get back to you on that.

Probably safer to just order the OE kit from your dealer, or maybe a specialist such as All Balls.

IIRC, the top & bottom taper rollers are to differing specs. If you order the Yamaha kit, I think you will find one will be an SKF 320/28x, the other will be from another bearing manufacturer, with the rollers set at a slightly different angle. Removing the old bearing from the lower stem can get interesting - use 'search' & you will pick up on various options if yours proves to be a challenge.

On my bike the lower OEM race is an NTN bearing: 4T-CR-0843. The upper one is a Koyo bearing 320/29JR and the race is just labeled 320/29J.

I destroyed the lower roller bearing assembly itself removing it, but it should be the same number as the race, perhaps with an R at the end? not sure though.

I used the Yamaha OEM replacements because I was having trouble identifying generic replacements with the integral seals like these. The All-Balls kit includes separate seals and I was less confident of the fit with those as I’ve had issues on other bikes when not using the same design as OEM.

My 2016 has two 320/28x but different manufacturers and internal features top to bottom. Mine also developed a flat spot and upon inspection only the bottom bearing was damaged so I bought it from Yamaha and left the top bearing alone, less work and less money. I have no idea why Yamaha would use different roller contact angles from top to bottom but decided to stay with their OEM parts.

The 93332-00081 is the lower one. I’m not sure what the differences are to the upper one but the ID is different between them.

These are the correct parts.

Hi folks,
Anybody know the size of the steering head bearings for yam ten 2012.
I’m getting a slight notch, looking to get SKF
I don’t know the sizes however I replaced mine in the last couple of months and used OEM parts. One set was definitely SKF and I think the other was NTN. £85 in England for the pair.

What's with that CA reproductive harm warning on the bearing boxes @WJBertrand?

Surely no one is thinking of using these bearings for anything that might be deemed inappropriate? Come to think of it though, I did see a similar warning on a vacuum cleaner a while back.

There was a proposition passed years ago, (#65) I think, that requires labeling of virtually everything that might be made of or containing a nanogram of anything that anyone thinks might cause cancer or birth defects.

Virtually everything you buy, store or business you enter must be so labeled. It’s a stupid cry wolf law that basically just serves to desensitize people to the point no one pays any attention.

Supertee, sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I just pulled out my set of bearings for the S10. I'm not sure how to measure the tapered upper and lower bearings in a way that would give you the info you need to source an alternate bearing from SKS. If there are specific measurements you need, I'll be happy to take them. I can provide the identifying info from the races and bearings themselves; if you have that, you may be able to cross reference them to an equivalent bearing in the SKS line.

Part Number 93332-00078, which is the upper steering head bearing and race, are both made by Koyo, and bear the following identifying info:

The bearing is marked "KOYO", "HI-CAP", "320/28JR", "JAPAN"
The bearing seal is marked "KOYO", "320/28JRR9", "17"
The race is marked "KOYO", "HI-CAP", "320/28JR", "JAPAN"

Part Number 93332-00081, which is the lower steering head bearing and race, are both made by NTN, and bear the following identifying info:

The bearing is marked "NTN", "4T-CR-0643L", "JAPAN YN"
The seal is marked "NTN", "CR-0643L"
The race is marked "NTN", "4T-CR-0643", "JAPAN", "YN"

Hope this info helps.
