Well the 2018 Romney Cycles Camp N Ride is in the books now. It started with a less than ideal weather forecast and ended with a terrific Saturday afternoon and Sunday. It also brought together 53 riders that were determined to have a good time regardless of what the weather was doing. As he said during the raffle, Kevin (Romney Cycle's owner) was impressed to see so many show up and never utter a single negative word about the conditions that existed on Friday. It's like everyone wanted to be there and didn't notice what the sky was doing. We have such a great group.
Definitely want to call out Ed (Whistler -Stromtrooper), Alan (TwoDogs - YST), and Larry for their very welcomed and appreciated assistance at the sign-in desk. Of course Mike also gets and honorable mention for his time at the desk. All their efforts keep things running as smoothly as possible, and ChecksWrecks and I are always grateful for it.
I'm down to basically taking no pictures at this point. This is one of the few I haven't already posted.
Like ChecksWrecks, this was also my first Camp N Ride without leading a group ride, or even riding 10 miles during the event. Full disclosure, I did take ChecksWrecks's dirt bike out for a quick ride. I was laying on the ground before the bike made it all the way off the road. Not my proudest moment...but humiliation is good for the soul, right? All that non-riding did free up time, and with the great support at the desk, ChecksWrecks and I had a chance to ride over to The Potomac Center on Saturday afternoon. As most of you know there are kids who were not going to have the opportunity to join us on Saturday evening. Our afternoon visit provided these other children with the opportunity to sit on bikes, rev the engines, and beep the horns. It resulted in the same type of reactions that all of you were able to witness on Saturday evening. I would say I hope you all enjoyed the visit with the kids, but looking the rider's faces in ChecksWreckss photos, I already know the answer. It was a special moment for both children and riders.
Speaking of The Potomac Center...you guys pulled out all the stops and shattered the previous per rider record. 2014 was our first year as a charity and we managed less than $8.00 per rider. That number has grown over the years and reached a high of over $33 per rider. We don't have the exact total just yet, but we know we're over $2,400, which means at a minimum our per rider total is over $45. That is a fantastic result and a great total from such a small group. We have some very generous fellow riders among us who did a lot, but they didn't do it alone. Everyone helped make that total possible. Along with the money, there was also a full box of donated items that we took over to The Potomac Center on Sunday. So a huge thank you to everyone for making our charity effort so successful. The Adventure Riders at Romney Cycles have once again left behind an outstanding positive impact for people who can really use it. Great job everyone.
At some point we will probably be posting a poll as we decide when to hold the next Romney Cycles Camp N Ride. Thanks to all that have already given your input. Look for more on that in the future.
Now...where are all the pictures? There has to be more than I've seen so far.
