I put a new front tyre on yesterday. I will be doing the rear today.

This is the second time I have removed the rear wheel. The first time the cush drive separated and jammed leaving me unable to remove the wheel till I managed to replumb it back in. I thought I was ready today with a tyre lever between the shaft drive housing and the cush drive to keep it with the wheel as I pulled it off the splines. However, I still managed to get them half separated and jammed up. Got it off in the end, next time I will succeed all in one go.

Struggled getting the last bead off the rim (Metzler Tourance). I just need a third hand and it would be a doddle. I just need to grow one or convince someone to come over when I'm doing it next time. Came in for a rest and a cool down (plus a cup of tea of course) before popping on the new tyre which I always find easy compared to getting the old ones off.
I use G clamps for breaking bead. Can also use a car jack off the tow ball with a coupla bits of 4x2 under the rim but its more shagging about

No problem breaking the bead, no problem getting the first bead off the rim. It's getting the final bead over the last bit of rim and the wheel out completely.

I usually put two levers in and turn them almost through 180 degrees which takes about a quarter of the tyre off the wheel. At this point on some wheels/tyre combinations I can pull the wheel out of the tyre. On others I need to get a third lever in and remove a little more before pulling the tyre off or the wheel out. Unfortunately if I let go of the first two tyre levers to put a third in it goes back to square one. If I put the three levers in position before starting one or two will drop out as I start to lever the others. This is why a second person just holding one lever makes all the difference for me.

It's only the back tyres that cause me a bit of straining, fronts are a doddle.

Each year It goes from DFW Airport to Gainesville. Normally it's publicized well before the event. I didn't hear about it this year until the day of. Charter bus with all surviving M.O.H. recipients being escorted by motorcycles. I have to assume that all countries have a similar event.

What a coincidence. Never heard of this event before either, then not 10 minutes later I'm on advrider searching for something completely different and stumble on this.
Poster rides a Tenere and is a member here also.

Also I just passed through Gainesville this week, the day before and the day after this event. Missed it by that much.

Noticed the gear change was becoming a bit sticky, regreased the gear lever pivot bolt again. Hopefully all will now be well.

The pan might have been over full, or it might have been just fine. It is a commonly-ish know problem with the sight glass. It is a very poor method of checking the oil on a T-12. I, and many others, drain our oil. . . . change the filter. . . and put 4qts back in. Don't look at the sight glass, just ride it. As a matter of fact, the window is totally useless until you ride . . . . for some distance. The double tank system on the T-12, which requires two/both drain plugs pulled, makes it very hard to ascertain how much oil is in the pan. Sadly, an inexperienced person could easily overfill her pan.

But, I'm with you . . . . I would have changed the oil too so I knew it was done right. Oh, you also might want to get rid of that old gas too, unless you had stabilizer in it. Enjoy the new ride.
I’m about to do my first oil change. Owners manual says 3.6qts. Are a lot of people just doing an even 4 with a filter? There’s no issue with overfilling it a little? Seems a lot easier than messing with the sight glass.
