Cold hip/S10 aerodynamics?

OK. Strange question but I'm curious if anyone else notices this. I've done lots of miles over the years and well over 100,000 miles on an S10 and every winter in the uk I notice my right hip getting cold.
Left hip is fine.
I used to notice it on my old ST1300 as well but not as much.
I wonder if my posture is wrong or if the aerodynamics of the S10 mean that the right hip/upper leg is more exposed.
Those of you that do short rides probably wont notice it. I'm talking about minimum 2 hour rides.
Or maybe I'm just going mad?

All of the heat from the radiator exits on the left so that may be why you feel the cold on the right. I haven't noticed that on my hips but if I drop my hand down off the grip I can feel the difference. I guess it would depend on how wide you are across the hips!

Having bionic hips and so very little feeling of the nerves at the skin in that area, I cannot help, but I would say there may be residual heat, even slightly from the position of the radiator as others have mentioned. I also wear liners in my riding pants so that may help.

Perhaps time for a 3/4 length jacket? ;)

Wondering aloud that the Gen I bikes don't have that filler panel under the seat on the right side. Some people have commented on getting wet due to that.

I'm no thermodynamasist (not sure if that's even a word) but there may be some truth to the radiator being on the left side. I'm guessing, any amount of heat will be felt when its given off or radiated towards a direction that can be felt. Even a little bit. I also own a 1997 Honda Goldwing that I take Mom for rides on (story on AdvRider if anyone is interested) and there are foot flaps that one can open to radiate heat on your feet. One can notice a difference if the flaps are open or closed. There are also vents that either allow cool outside air towards the rider or close some vents and it re-directs engine heat towards rider. Not the same because it wasnt 'built into' the Tenere but warmth from the left side might not just be in your head.

So has anyone else mounted a “collector” with a duct that directs heat coming off the radiator onto the rider? I have thought of making something that mounts to my crash bars that does just this.

Wlw...I didn't think I'd get any replies! Thanks folks.
Probably I'm just going mad. I have bad circulation so I have all the good gear..heated clothing 3/4 jacket etc.
EticV...i have been wondering about your point about the cover. I might buy a cover soon and let you know if it helps.
Mak10...I'd love to be able to deflect all engine heat on me..even in the summer!!

My thoughts: if it has happened on two totally different bikes, it is likely the way you sit and your circulation. The human body is hard to figure out.

I used to get the exact same thing, but on both side on my old BMW R1150GS and the funny thing is, my best friend experiences the same chill around his middle on his 2017 BMW R1200GS too. Maybe it’s and adventure bike aerodynamics thing? I can’t honestly say that I have noticed it on my Super Ten but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Does your hips hurt if you sit in front of the computer to long?
Any heat at this time of year is a good thing but heated gear is a must when you ride all year round..
My knees take a beating in cold weather, i wear slip on knee braces and long johns then at some point the insulated snow mobile overalls come out of the closet around late December into January seems to help.

You're possibly mad, mate, but try some cardboard and duct tape to make up a shield and get a ride in to see if it makes a difference. A lot cheaper experiment than buying a panel!

We're all different. But sometimes it's just that one thing that makes a world of difference in your comfort on the bike.

I might try the cardboard EricV
I do have all the heated gear (inc trousers) but still get a cold right hip and that of course was the point of this thread because it is only my right hip that gets cold which is why it seems strange. Anyway..interesting replies folks..thank you
PS..might original reply should have said WOW and not WLW..(my fat finger typing!!)
Oh..Fennellg I'm 46 but feel like Im already falling to bits!! Think it's this bloomin uk climate...loads of miles on the bike and frequent 12-15 hr days at work.
I need to win the lottery and retire somewhere warm

Is it possible your gear has a dead spot?

The heated trousers I use (Keis) only have heating panels on the front of the legs anyway..none on the hips either side. Thanks for the idea though

I have not noticed the heat in cool weather. But I think it is brutal in the summer coming off the left side. I have read on here from others that they don't notice it in the summer. My thoughts are to build a spoiler to mount to my crash bar to deflect it in the summer and one to draw heat in for winter. After that being said I think you are feeling the heat and maybe just more sensitive to it. Try making a spoiler for yourself could be what you need.

If you have heated glove liners try and put them around the outside of your hips and see if that works.
Seems like someone could make a heated strip with Velcro to put anyplace needed?
