I’ve picked up a Zumo XT on Black Friday and I’m looking for ideas on where to mount it on a Gen 2. Pics would be a plus.
TIA
I will try to get a pick, but my older 595 works quite well on the Madstat crossbar/accessory mount using a Ram system (I think what came with the 595). I'm not sure if it would work as well on the OEM bar as OEM is a narrower diameter.

Something similar to Skunkworks but this one is slightly offset and lifts the XT up a bit. I've now added a Touratech locking mount as I was going to forget to remove the XT at some point and it was bound to be stolen.

I do not like Zumo's mounting scheme. While it is aesthetically pleasing, I believe it is also a candidate for both an easy theft and falling off the mount. I also did not care to hard wire the unit since I may be using it in other vehicles.

Additionally, I have ridden motorcycles and bicycles through thunderstorms and everything gets soaked. I did not want to find out the hard way the XT could not take it.

I adapted the power supply to a USB plug and purchased a USB/Lighter insert. I installed the unit including mounting plate in weather resistant case https://sw-motech.us/products/navigation/bags+accessories/4052572029930.htm. from SW Motech. (Givi has identical product) then mounted the assembly to the accessory bar.

Despite appearances, it does not block my sight line and is vibration free. I can secure the mount with a lock if I want and if the weather goes, pull it in about 30 seconds.

Of course YMMV *S*

Wanted to add, I have had mine, which is in the factory mount, a number of times in regular rain for several hours, and several gully washers, where you couldn't see more than 30-40' in front of you. Not a problem for the unit, worked great, and still does.

Previous zumo models and their mounts have all been weather proof. Is that no longer the case with the XT? My old 550 has been through numerous gully washers with no issues.

I do not know how waterproof the XT is. From experience in my misspent youth, I just have limited faith in any electrical item around water and plan accordingly.

I am wondering, does that make me a troglodyte?

According to Garmin’s specs:

IPX7 – A device with a level 7 water resistance rating can survive (without any damage) immersion in water of up to 1m (approx. 3ft) for 30min. All the devices with the IPX7 rating are considered fully waterproof. IPX7

After one trip with the XT using the garmin mount I was tired of removing the gps when I stopped. Bought touratech locking mount , it semi blocks the turn indicator lights in the dash . Rode thru some turd floating rains and gps had no issues.

To be honest the XT mount doesn't give confidence so I always try to rip it out before riding. I haven't han any problems with it though and its had some workouts that Touratech mount looks like the way to go though.

I was worried about the security of the GPS when using the Garmin mount, so I attached a tether to the GPS so that if it ever comes off, it doesn’t get lost. However in several thousands of miles, it has never come off or lose and has never given an issue with water or dust. As long as you clip it in well it seems to work very well, but I still use the tether. The mount also seems to be very watertight..
