If (when) I get to the point of not being able to hold up a motorcycle, it would be on to a convertible. But to each his own.

I sold a 2012 that I bought new and rode until spring 2020. Lusted after a Triumph XE1200 which I love but missed the Super Tenere's highway manners. I found a 2015 nearby and now have both ! After owning over 40 bikes I love the Super Tenere's versatility, reliability, capability, and low cost of ownership . I love hopping on and knocking out a 300-400 mile day and coming home with a smile and not worn out, even at 58.

When I bought my 1st Tenere (a 2013) in 2016.... I thought I was moovin on (from 6 VStroms since 2003) I was wrong.
I promptly bought anuther Strom (2012 DL650) to have alongside the Tenere.
Then...a year later in 2017.. I bought a 2014 Tenere cuz it had cruise mainly.
In 2019 I traded the 650 Strom & a Stelvio for anuther cleaner blue 2014 Tenere..& soon after traded the first 2014 Tenere for a 2014 VStrom 1000. Then a deal on a 2013 650 Strom popped up so I bit.
Fast fwd anuther year (2021) & the first 1000 Strom was gone...replaced by anuther with lower miles. The 2013 650 left me this last Summer.
Which leads to the current situation....
I sold the blue 2014 Tenere & replaced it with a much lighter bike. Im Actually selling the 2014 Strom too... Why?
I bought a 2019 Tiger 800 XRT
It has the cruise I came to expect for trips.
& many other goodies like heated grips/seats....5 diff ride modes...etc
Its weight is close to the 650 Strom & feels good on a gravel road. More suspension travel than the Stroms...with plenty of adjustments.

Being a longtime Strommer (10 bikes total) & then a series of 3 Teneres over 6 years.
All wonderful bikes...very doitall in nature...some a bit better than others & reliable as a rock. Inexpensive too

We'll see how the Triumph fares
& now Ive sold all the leftover Tenere stuff I had. Probably wont see 2mch of me here...but you can still send me a PM if ya need a Butler Map or sumthin else. Im around on ADVrider as Cycledelic Relic...& Two Wheeled Texans as Mr2mch ...or Mr2mch01 on Stromtrooper.

I still check the forum from time to time....& who knoz....What bike mite come my way.

I keep the complete catalog of maps on hand...
Sometimes I even have them with me on the bike...in case I run across someone who needs one. The Butler guys call me their "roving dealer"

I have been to a few big multi brand shops in the last few months. They have nothing on the floor but campers, lawn mowers and side by side buggies and a pile of kids Chinese bikes. KTM had a few dirt bikes on the floor and Triumph had a few on the floor. My point being I will not order a bike from a picture. I have to see it feel it and ride it before I will buy it. This may be the way of the future but it doesn't work for me. I would just have to buy a used Tenere and set it like mine if it comes to replacing mine. Looks like used is where i would be at unless shops put inventory on the floor. How about the rest of the universe? Do your local areas keep bikes on the floor for sale?

local retailers keep a decent amount of bikes on the floor up here in Montreal - that doesn't mean they have every model available. I bought my 2022 ST sight unseen (the one i purchased) and had never tried one - probably not the smartest way to buy a bike but my mind was made up, I did a lot of research and spoke to a couple of owners

If and when I get to the point where I'm going to change bikes - I will at least do a test ride

I never test rode one either. But I've been a Yamaha rider since '79 and didn't expect any surprises. Nobody around here even knew what a Tenere was, so there was nobody to ask. But I did research it and watched a bunch of videos.

My story is sort of the opposite...
I wanted to buy a tracer 900 because even though I watched a lot of videos and read a lot about the S10 I thought it was too much for myskinnyself....
One year earlier I rode both the 700 and the 900 and made up my mind for the 900....
Once I went to the dealer a year or so
later accidentally there was one S10, asked if I could try along with another tracer 900 and I ended up with a brand new 2020 S10....

Back on topic there are models displayed but not as many as few years ago...

Yamaha sponsored demo day rides at the local dealer so I was able to ride the T7 and the S10 back-to-back. That dealer did not have either in stock the rest of the summer (2021) so I bought my S10 at the next closest dealer a couple months later when one showed up in inventory. Haven't seen a S10 back in stock at either location since then.

I had a GS12 for a few years and got the fever to buy a Goldwing and tour the country with the wife on something we could both be comfortable on. After 6 years the wife put her helmet on the shelf and said she had seen enough. I sold the Wing and headed over to the BMW dealer as I really did like my first GS. After checking out the prices, I had to walk away. Next stop was at the Yamaha dealer. I had been looking at the S10 and liked it. I made my choice to go with the Black one, wrote the check and hit the road. I hade never road an S10, but by the time I got to the first stop light a mile down the road, I knew I had made a great choice.

Fast forward a few years and I got all excited about the new Ducati Scrambler. I knew I had to have one, but with the service cost and sticker price, I just put everything on hold. A year or so later a customer brought a Scrambler in the shop for a set of tires and I finally got my chance to ride one. Boy am I glad I didn't buy one without a test ride. While the Scrambler looks great, it was one of the blandest motorcycles I have ever rode. Nothing exciting about it at all. I thought I was on an old Honda XL250. That test ride saved me a chunk of money for sure.

Those who visited Romney Cycles 5 years ago saw hundreds of bikes on the floor and could easily understand how they were the #1 Suzuki dealer and in the top 5 or 6 for Yamaha and Kawasaki in the country. 18 months ago people were asking me if Romney was going out of business. Just a tiny fraction of bikes on the floor, and lots of room to host multiple football games. All due to supply chain issues. Yamaha was particularlly hard hit. Not only due to Japanese lockdowns, but also because of the COVID related delays in the countries where they sourced their metal supply. Romney looks much better stocked today. Back in '21 I ask the owner when he thought he'd be restocked. He compared it to filling an empty pond with a hose. Just turn it on and forget about it. Eventually it will fill up again.

I'll go a distance to test ride before buying too. I really liked the look of the Yam 900 (forget which) and riding it was fun, but the seat was a torture device after about the first 20 minutes.

I was on my second FJR when in 2010 Yamaha announced that eventually the Super Ten would come to the US. Fortunately I was working a lot in the EU and Ireland and got a chance to ride two of them over there. Put down my PDP money on March 11, 2011, went home, and the wife had the TV on to see the announcers going on and on about some accident on the other side of the world in Japan. It was in some nuclear plant called Fukushima.
o_O
When those PDP bikes finally arrived months later (August iirc) a member started selling nuclear hazard stickers that we put on.

If you think that I'm selling my Tenere or moving on, then you have no clue.
But I sure like riding other bikes.
The other day I had the chance to take an 850 Gozzi for a spin.
I have liked the idea of the 850 Adventure Guzzi being the smallest of the driveshaft adventure bikes.
All I have read was positive about the bike.
This wasn't the Adventure model but it must be fairly close feeling as I think it has the same engine. [maybe less power]
The bike is tiny compared to the gigantic Super Tenere. It was a nice bike "But" a big "But" here, the engine just shuck the whole bike. Not a 4 cylinder buzz just a constant banging feeling.
I guess I would have to say I was very disappointed in my first and only Guzzi ride.
