Will need a new seat sometime - hopefully this year. The stock seat is too soft for me I think (6’3” 225lbs) as i develop a sore rear end after an hour and a half or so. After that I need to get off every hour or so. Can get by longer by putting the airhawk on right away.

So I know seats are highly subjective - leaning toward a Corbin, but wondering about the Saddlemen - hard to find a lot of good reviews on it. Sorry, the RDL just does not appeal to me - yes I’ll be honest - because of how they look (there I admitted it).

Haven’t heard too many good tings about a Sargent seat for this bike either.

Any feedback on the Corbin or Saddlemen would be appreciated guys, Thanks.

I did a 12k mile trip with my corbin. Half with an airhawk, half without. I can go either way. I'm a corbin fan, though. From riding road bikes, I know that I like a firm saddle that supports my sit bones and keeps soft tissue pressure to a minimum. Once you break in a corbin, it's awesome. I'll probably try a beadrider again (used one on my FZ1) this year just for air flow.

The stock seat hurts my tail bone after about an hour. I am currently running a RDL on my recently acquired 16 Super Tenere and it feels pretty good but I understand the looks issues. FYI they do make a sport version that does not have the big wings.

I had a Corbin on my 14 Super Tenere and it worked out quite well. That is what I would try first if the RDL is out of the running.

I did a recent search as well and I did not find many positive reviews of the Saddlemen.

I have the corbin , like it . but if I may make a suggestion , when you order the seat ( they do not compensate for the forward slope of the seating , and you will still have the tendency of the seat to slide you forward ) see if they can lower or dish or flatten it so it takes away the forward slide.... then it will be a great seat.... I wished I would have asked....

Thanks for the advice.

Is it possible for you to do the fllat seat mod like we do with the stock seat? This made my stock seat a lot more tolerable (the boys don’t get mashed tward the tank anymore - i think the aggressive seat texturing on the stock seat makes this worse).

Just to clarify, the RDL sport version still has the wings, but is lower. I had the regular RDL and found that a friend's sport version was more comfortable for me, so had them modify mine (free) and I like it better. Here are comparison pics.

That’s a good looking seat, I like that pattern. I ordered my RDL for my FJR with that in leather and vinyl sides.
Best seat maker out there.

Does it feel as low as the stock seat did??

I ran my stock seat in the low position and also run this sport RDL in the low position, so as far as I can tell they are about the same.

Just an FYI, I will be posting a new never used Terry Adcox seat for sale tomorrow. I have to ask AVGeek to post a picture for me first.

I cut down the plastic seat bracket (the hi/lo thing) so it doesn't matter what seat I use. Cutting the bumpers on the Corbin would probably not be so great.

Cool. Scored a Corbin seat haven’t got it yet.

Which part of the plastic seat braket device did you cut down to flatten it out?

You mind posting a pic of it?

Thanks!

Just cut the rear nubs about 1/4". I'll try to remember to take a pic tomorrow. I did stick one of the venture short bumpers up under the metal part to secure the seat tab, but I'll probably replace it with a piece of delrin so it's not sticky.

Before you start cutting, I suggest giving the Corbin a little while to settle. I got a Corbin last winter have used it for about 1,000 miles so far. I'm liking it and am playing around with the seat height and riding position to get it optimized. Here's my short seat saga:

1) Didn't like the basic seat due to the tilt and softness of the foam. Preferred the high position over the low. Road this way for ~3,000 miles.
2) Did the seat mod to reduce the tilt. Much better, but the foam issue remained. Road this way for ~3,000 miles.
3) Got the Corbin and found that with the high position the tilt was much less of an issue. Generally OK. Still breaking it in.
4) Picked up a '87 BMW K75S as a project bike. This has a much tighter riding position than the S10. Looked into the Master Yoda Riding Position.
5) Rode the K75 one morning then hopped on the S10 in the afternoon. Was shocked at how different the riding position felt. The S10 was wide open, my thighs were pitched more down and I found it more awkward to grip and lever with my knees. Trickier to do the Master Yoda Riding Position, or at least of less apparent value in terms of control.
6) Put the Corbin into the low position. Much better posture and ability to "bend at the hips, not the waist." No tilt issue at all. The lower position put my knees into a better position for grip and control.

I'd still prefer the high position in terms of my Achilles tendons (the tense up a bit) and reaching the ground, but I'm starting to get used to it and like the low position on balance. It makes the MYRP easier to exercise, which has helped with control and how my back feels after a ride.

I only offer this as a suggestion on using the Corbin. You will find the tilt is not as extreme as the stock seat. But I suggest playing around a bit with your riding position (check out Master Yoda) and with a low seat setting before cutting things up. The high position was my favored one until now and I'm questioning my bar risers and their positioning. I have a sense that some of the tilt issue may be due to how folks choose to position themselves on the bike. I may experiment a bit with the old seat and the MYRP to see if my hypothesis works.

Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure you'll like the Corbin. Much better than stock.

Mounted the Corbin and went out for about a 3.5 hr ride last night. Corbin is definitely has much less tilt than stock. Nice to get rid of the that awful rear end chafing texture of the stock seat.

it is also much firmer, whuch is what I was hoping for. I was pretty comfortable on it, and hopefully it will break in to me and I will get used to it, even though it’s used.

Not a magic bullet, but an improvement for sure.

I also ride with the seat in the low position.

Just did some reading on the master yoda riding position. Funny, I have realized lately that my posture sucks and my discomfort could likely be a result of that. last night for about half my ride I corrected my posture and sat more aft on the bike doing pretty much as what is described by this technique in an effor to simply correct my posture.

Everything felt better, but it does take a bit of effort to maintain this position and would take some conditioning. I am going to give it a try for awhile. Thanks for the tip!

It's really too bad you can't get past the looks of the RDL. No one sees it while you're sitting on it, then again, who cares, right? One of the most commented parts of my bike when I'm out and about is my seat. Observers love it. I hope you like your Corbin, but I've also noticed you trying out different riding positions even with the new seat. That doesn't happen on an RDL. It's basically sit on it and forget it. It just works, and when putting on hundreds and hundreds of miles a day, you'll never think of your butt again. Instead your only thoughts will be how long you can ride before you have to stop for fuel. RDL should have the same slogan as a Ducane Gas Grill, "Buy you last grill/motorcycle seat first."

I just did a VIP ride-in custom saddle at Bill Mayer Saddles, conveniently located right here in Ventura. Only have a dozen miles or so on it but next weekend's ride to Laguna Seca should prove or disprove it. Luckily, they'll modify it for free if it's not right. They do caution to allow 1000-1500 miles break-in though. That seems to be a common recommendation across different saddle companies.

Has anyone tried a Touratech seat? I'm a bit short and I'm also not comfortable on the stock seat. I'm curious about the TT seats and especially their low seat. https://touratech-usa.com/Store/Touratech-Comfort-Seats-Yamaha-Super-Tenere-XT1200Z
