As a point of interest.. I just now called Ride Now Powersports and spoke with service writer. He tells me he talked to Yamaha and they *may* be doing a recall on these, but he has to get with manager. Probably BS

FWIW, I've had the YES on three bikes now, '04 FJR, '12 Super Ten and now the '15 Super Ten. I used it several times on the FJR for CCT wear, (not failure), and for major work at nearly 100k on the FJR. No negative issues with the dealer when using the YES. I also used it on the '12 Super Ten for a major CCT failure that cost about $4k in repairs, of which I only paid for additional items I wanted done at the same time, (clutch basket swap).

In regards to doing your own work. Keep a log in the owner's manual. I keep both a maintenance log on the pages they provide, extending it by drawing more lines, and a tire log that I made on a blank page in the owner's manual. At 98k on the FJR the dealer looked at me and said, "they are going to want to see proof of maintenance" I showed him the logs, he copied them and sent them in. A couple of days later he told me that was accepted and I didn't need to bring my receipts in, (which I had for filters and oil, air filters, etc.).

The dealer is your advocate. A good one will know if your claim is legit and work for you with Yamaha to get the claim taken care of. I've been very pleased with the YES warranty.

For the Canadians, yes, it sucks to be dealing with Yamaha Canada and not have the same extended warranty possibilities. Look into aftermarket extended warranty options. I don't know what's available in Canada, but in the US some good options exist for less than what was quoted earlier in this thread, and comparable coverage. Typical aftermarket warranties here are good for the value of the bike at the time the warranty was purchased, (over the lifetime of the warranty), and on single claims, the current value of the bike at the time of the claim. Wife bought an unlimited mileage one for her '16 BMW R1200GS at the time she bought the bike for around $1500 usd. The one she had for her previous F650GS2 ended up being nearly used up by the time she sold the bike. Over $10k usd in warranty repairs over it's 110k miles with us. Most of it early on.

RPMOne and Zenith come to mind as sellers.

They should. Mine is bad too and it's amazing that the dealers are struggling with the dx and fix.

I took it to dealer in Tucson, they kept it for 3 days before they could even look at it. I told them about the brake switches and they 'diagnosed' a front switch and supposedly ordered a new switch. Brake light was on when I got home. I ended up spraying some silicone on front switch and blasting it with air from compressor and it worked fine until yesterday. However that was a month ago and when I called yesterday the service writer said he 'hadn't heard' from Yamaha and would call them. Ride Now Powersports in Tucson is not highly recommended by me. Of course I haven't heard from them. I'm going to try the dealer in Sierra Vista and see if I have any better luck. Problem has pushed me to buy a YES plan from Jerold at D&H. Anybody got a dealer recommendation that's within striking distance of Douglas, AZ?
I know its a bit more of a haul, but check with Nash Motorports. They have three locations in the Phoenix area, and the owner is still very hands on.

The YES warranty is good, many riders on here have used it. You can cancel the warranty your dealer sold you, get a refund and buy it somewhere else. I would wait until near the end of the factory warranty to buy the extended warranty anyway.
Dealership said its jacked up 4-500 hundred if you wait till the end of the initial warranty. BS?

I got the 4 year Y.E.S. on my leftover 2016. Normally I don't but I got bit pretty hard on my Ford Fusion on an issue that their extended warranty would have covered so I guess it's just insurance. As long as it's a factory warranty and not some aftermarket thing I'm OK with paying the extra bucks for it. I paid more than $400 bucks for it though so that stinks.. ::005::
I did too. Sounds like big st.charles bent me over on the warranty.

Yes, BS. While the extended warranty cost might go up during the year, it's because it's going up across the board, not just because your initial warranty period is ending. Call the folks at D&H, they'll shoot straight with you. http://www.dandhcycle.com/index.html

He might jack up the price, Yamaha does not.

Call D&H Cycles and buy from them. Best price, only if you call. Great dealer and good people.

It costs the same no matter when you buy it. You must buy while the original 12 month warranty is still in effect.

I bought the YES when I bought this leftover 17 a week ago. Dumb me didn’t research the warranty before committing. Can I cancel the YES and buy elsewhere or stuck?

I don't know if you can cancel the YES and then add it again from another dealer. I would call Yamaha Y.E.S. Sales department at 866-937-3983 and ask.

You might call the dealer and ask if they have submitted the YES paperwork yet, and if not, tell them you have changed your mind.

It’s been an expensive lesson in buying an extended warranty. Stealer used a scare tactic.... pretty shady customer service in my book. Should have went with my gut feeling and not bought it on site.

On the bright side, you have it. In about 4 years or so Yamaha will send you a postcard offering you another 2 years for a ok price. Then call D&H and they will verify, then offer it to you at a better price. :)

I would find out if you can cancel it, then walk into the dealer with what D&H would charge and tell them you will not cancel it if they give you some parts that equal that difference. They would still win in the $$, although not as much. When I walked into the dealer to buy my bike, they wanted close to $900 if I recall right. I had printed out the price D&H was selling it at, and they ended up matching the price.

Stealer did discount some when I bauked at the original quote. Should have been my que to go for more. Getting ready to buy a new car will challenge them on an extended warranty.

Just talked to YES. FYI; Warranty can be canceled and repurchased from another dealer if a better price is found within the one year manufacturers warranty.

I bought a new CRV a few years ago and the dealer tried to sell me an aftermarket warranty for $2200. I researched online and bought an extended factory warranty (7year/120K mile) for $1000 from a dealer in MA. Same thing with a new Tacoma truck, a dealer out in Kansas beat the local selling dealer by 50%. Look around.
