YES Renewal/Extension
Yesterday I received a letter from Yamaha offering to renew my YES since it's expiring soon. I have a 2012 model and got the 4 year YES when I bought the bike, giving me 5 years of warranty.
They are offering to renew/extend my YES for one or two more years.
Pricing for 1 year is $470+$29.85 tax for a total of $499.85
Pricing for 2 years is $594+$37.72 tax for a total of $631.72
Unlike the original YES, this is more of a gamble in price Vs return on investment. They do also offer to accept a 4 payment installment plan, fwiw, (CC only payments automatic). The info says I can renew online with the provided code, call 1-866-937-3983 M-F 7am - 5pm and have my service authorization number ready, (provided on the form), Complete the form and renew by mail, OR to contact my nearest dealer.
That last bit about contacting my nearest dealer makes me wonder if some dealers are offering better pricing than others, or than the Yamaha prices listed on the info I got. Anyone know?
I suppose I will call Romney or Santa Rosa and see what they say if no one chimes in on this thread.
For me personally, the 4 year YES paid off, re-building my motor after a catastrophic CCT failure at 82k. I'm just over 99k now and don't see any issues in my future, but you never know. Question is, will any issue I may have be more expensive than the cost of the YES extension? I suppose a bottom end issue could be, or perhaps a final drive issue. But none of these things are common or have occurred to the few over 100k bikes yet.
I can't afford to upgrade and no other bike appeals to me at the moment. A new S10 would only add factory CC, and I have a CC unit that I need to finish hooking up, so the current bike will probably stay in the stable for a few more years at least. I'll probably upgrade the suspension sometime this year. (wish I had a good shop locally, or at least in a 500 mile radius.)
Thoughts and opinions welcome. No point in just saying you never buy extended warranties, that's been covered to death in normal YES topic posts here.
