Just bought one, Great service. Got mine while I still have a month left on my warranty. if one thing breaks it will pay for itself, kind of couldn't pass this up. They should just tack 400 onto the cost of the bike and sell it with the 5 year warranty imho. I'd rather pay it forward because 4 hours of labor is 430 bucks.

This was a 10 minute phone call and I had my warranty in the email.

It's a solid deal.

I'm getting my first service done tomorrow. I purchased YES insurance and had my maintenance log card on the counter next to the garage and I'll be damned if the thing didn't slide down between the cabinet and the wall ::010:: No way to retrieve without tearing off the granite and/or the cabinet.

I don't recall if this card was specific to my warranty (i.e. contained account # or something) or if it's just a generic maintenance log card? If generic, does anyone have a pdf copy or image they can share or if there is a link to a copy online (my Google searches have been fruitless) so I can recreate it if needed? I'm not sure if the dealer would have any copies or not. The bright side is since it's my first service, I didn't lose any previously recorded maintenance.

Re: YES Question - Input Needed

Are you looking for a copy of the YES warranty paper or some sort of card that you would track maintenance with that would be found in the owner's manual?

Re: YES Question - Input Needed

There is a maintenance log card that came with the warranty paperwork which the dealer needs to fill out for every maintenance performed (or the owner with receipts if work performed by self). I may not need the "official" log card and could just mock one up in a spreadsheet to print out and use but I didn't look at it that closely before losing it to be sure.

Re: YES Question - Input Needed

I bought my S10 used off a forum member and he gave me the warranty but no maintenance card. When I did the warranty transfer, I brought the warranty with me but the service center didn't request any maintenance documentation. I paid for the labor for the "warranty transfer" where they check a ton of stuff but that was it. I brought the bike in 2 weeks ago for maintenance and they covered my missing turn signal button under warranty and still didn't request a card. I just keep a copy of all the paperwork they hand to me after work is complete.

Maybe I'm just getting lucky with a lenient service center? Riva Motorsports in Pompano Beach fyi.

Re: YES Question - Input Needed

I just had the engine rebuilt under YES and never showed the dealer anything. Any dealer should be able to login and find your status.

YES Renewal/Extension

Yesterday I received a letter from Yamaha offering to renew my YES since it's expiring soon. I have a 2012 model and got the 4 year YES when I bought the bike, giving me 5 years of warranty.

They are offering to renew/extend my YES for one or two more years.

Pricing for 1 year is $470+$29.85 tax for a total of $499.85
Pricing for 2 years is $594+$37.72 tax for a total of $631.72

Unlike the original YES, this is more of a gamble in price Vs return on investment. They do also offer to accept a 4 payment installment plan, fwiw, (CC only payments automatic). The info says I can renew online with the provided code, call 1-866-937-3983 M-F 7am - 5pm and have my service authorization number ready, (provided on the form), Complete the form and renew by mail, OR to contact my nearest dealer.

That last bit about contacting my nearest dealer makes me wonder if some dealers are offering better pricing than others, or than the Yamaha prices listed on the info I got. Anyone know?

I suppose I will call Romney or Santa Rosa and see what they say if no one chimes in on this thread.

For me personally, the 4 year YES paid off, re-building my motor after a catastrophic CCT failure at 82k. I'm just over 99k now and don't see any issues in my future, but you never know. Question is, will any issue I may have be more expensive than the cost of the YES extension? I suppose a bottom end issue could be, or perhaps a final drive issue. But none of these things are common or have occurred to the few over 100k bikes yet.

I can't afford to upgrade and no other bike appeals to me at the moment. A new S10 would only add factory CC, and I have a CC unit that I need to finish hooking up, so the current bike will probably stay in the stable for a few more years at least. I'll probably upgrade the suspension sometime this year. (wish I had a good shop locally, or at least in a 500 mile radius.)

Thoughts and opinions welcome. No point in just saying you never buy extended warranties, that's been covered to death in normal YES topic posts here.

No Brainer Eric, do it. The first couple of years the warranty is a moot point, but at this age and mileage the odds tip in your favour, more likely to put in a claim going forward. But like any insurance, cost vs risk, also worth checking what they cover. The most anybody in EU will get on a used bike is max 1 year (or balance of mfg warranty) and normally 3 months is it! And on drive train only.

I went to the dealer that sold me two Tenere's and showed them I could get 4 years for $389. They matched that price. I got a good price and the money stayed local.

And I'm not beyond trying the local shop that I bought the bike from back in '11, but they traditionally wouldn't match or give good pricing on the YES. This is slightly different than the normal YES, since it's extending the YES beyond the 4 year level. They never offered me this on my '04 FJR, which had about the same mileage at the end of five years.

Same at this dealership. I explained I would rather leave the money locally and do business with them. It took them about ten minutes to process the purchase. I know they made money but don't know how much.

I know for a fact that extended warranties are one of the most profitable businesses around. Your best bet is to never pay for one - not for your dishwasher, not for your half dozen Apple devices, and not for your bike (unless you are lucky enough to do 20k a year) and then, if one of them breaks, you pay to fix it, and you will still come out ahead.

I'd agree in general and I believe paying the list price for YES warranty is a bad deal. But, at less than $100 a year I thought it was a good deal on my FJR. I bought my S10 used with a warranty and I think the first owner paid almost $1000.

As I said in the original post, you need not present this idea. It's simply not the same thing. Bike has 99k miles on it and extending the YES, (which more than paid for itself on a first year production bike), is a new concept. A couple more years for the right price may be worth it. I'm not sure the offered $631 and change is that price though.

20k a year? Poseur. :D I may average that, but have done 40k a year some years and 5k other years due to life's ups and downs.

The real question is has anyone gotten this cheaper?

Contact D&H in Alabama and see if they can offer a better deal.
Just checked D&H's website and you can click on YES, then click to by and it will ask you to enter your VIN or PID#. The VIN didn't work on mine, but the PID number shown on the paperwork Yamaha sent me for the YES extension did pull you the two offerings, (1 year or 2 years extension of my 4 year YES). D&H Cycles is offering a discounted rate for these two plans as well. Not as good a discount as the regular YES, but nice to get some love. $470 for one year extension and $594 for 2 years extension. That's $37.72 off the 2 year price of 631.72. (only saw at check out that there is no discount with D&H, the difference in price is the TAX! When you check out, it applies the $37.72 in taxes, so it's a wash, the same as the pricing on the flier I received from Yamaha. :( )

I've used my YES over the last 4 years a few times, with the one major issue that would have cost me over $4k, so I'm going to take the chance that I'll get some more use from it for the next two years that will be over $594. I maintain my bike well, but sometimes stuff happens. This might cover the side stand switch which has had some occasional flakyness or a major issue that's not "wear". The terms and conditions of the extension are the same as the first four years of the YES, so no limit on miles or any different restrictions from the regular Yamaha warranty that I've been under for the last 4 years and 9 months. My 4 year YES expires in early August. I expect more people will be seeing these offers to extend the YES soon.

Hopefully this thread will help others and I would hope others will post info about extending the YES beyond the original 4 year max when they learn of it.

Re: YES Renewal/Extension

side note - I called Romney Cycles in WV and spoke with Sharon. She took my VIN and poked her computer but couldn't offer me any info and didn't seem to know about the extension beyond the normal 4 year YES plan. She was happy to contact Yamaha and ask them about it though and see if they could offer a discount. I'm just going to pull the trigger online with D&H as they offer a discount and it's simple to do on their site. Note that they also offer the four payment plan at check out, (there is a $4 fee for that). Yamaha charges the same $4 fee for the four payment plan option on their paperwork, fwiw.

added note - pricing at D&H Cycles is the same as Yamaha's on the flier. The difference is the $37.72 in tax, which D&H doesn't show, but applies at checkout.

If someone finds a better discount, please post details in this thread for future owners to find.

Re: YES Renewal/Extension

I also received a flier for renewal and I am contemplating the extension. Mine expires in August so I have some time. If someone knows someone that could offer it for less, I would most likely jump in and extend it. I'm only at 37K Miles and don't plan on getting rid of my 2012. They already made money off my original 4 years. The only warranty replacement I had was the chain tensioner. Good thing I purchased at the discounted rate originally. ;D

Re: YES Renewal/Extension

Eric I suggest you call D&H and talk to Renee or Gerald. They might be able to discount, just not online. Their regular YES discount is only done by snail mail.
