So, this may come as no surprise to some of you, but I can be a real dummy at times! After buying my Super Tenere I bought the wrong oil filter wrench not once mind you, but twice! So I have 2 brand new in the packaging wrenches that I have no use for. Well, one has been cut partially loose from the cardboard backer, as shown in the pic...

These WILL NOT fit the filter for our S10's. how's $17.50 shipped CONUS sound?

Won't your dealer trade them out? At least the totally unopened one? Worst case for them, they could discount the opened one.

The 5DM filter that wrench fits are on Yamaha XP500 TMax scooters, 98-03 FZS600 Fazer, 01-25 YFM660 Raptor and 07-10 XVS1300 V-Stars. The filter is less than two inches long and even on a lot of those units the filter is in a recessed hole and you have to use a cup style wrench to get them off.

I looked through all my filter wrenches and it looks like that Yamaha filter is the same size as the one that fits a lot of Suzuki cruisers. It will work on most all Suzuki cruisers and ATV's that use a #138 filter or Suzuki #'s 16510-34E00, 16510-06B00/1 and 16510-03G00/X07.

I haven't used a filter wrench on any of my vehicles in decades. Hand tightened only. I've never had a leak, or lost a filter. The last time I had an issue was the first time changing the oil on the Tenere. Had to use Channel Lock style pliers to get it off.

Not sure about the S10 but my Zx14r manual specifically says hand tight is not enough.

Generally, from the point that the wetted seal makes contact, 3/4 of a turn is tight enough.

I’ve got a whole collection of oil filter wrenches. Seems like every time I’ve gotten a different vehicle over the decades, either the size or access issues prevent the use of anything I’ve already got!

Same here. I knew an old farmer who would just punch the filter with a screwdriver and that was his wrench.

It seems my newer vehicles are going to a replacement element in a reusable housing.
