I acquired a 1977 highly original and numbers matching XT500 last week when I had covid. My dad picked it up for me at the guy. Today got my first good look around the bike, and a short ride ofcourse. What a beautiful and fun bike!

If you haven't driven it before, you don't need to look at the cam sight to start it. Gently press the decompressor lever until you feel a stop on your finger. Gently kick the starter lever to crank the engine until you feel the decompressor lever sink in all the way. At that moment the piston is ready to be kicked hard, and in the camshaft sight glass, there is the decompression mark for starting.

Damn, nice!! Lucky man!

Ive been looking for the exact. Grew up ripping the local roads and trails as an unlicensed young kid in the mountains on a 75 DT 250. Im in the market for another 70s DT (though not sure of wanting to deal with an almost 50 year old 2 stroke) or 70s XT to purchase and leave it at my parent's pad for visits. Would love to revisit those old trails and days of being a teenaged hooligan again on another 70s Yamaha.

Absolutely
A beautiful XT for sure!
I always have my eyes looking for a mid/late '70s TT500 with the bare metal tank. They rarely come around
in decent shape but when one does come along and it pushes all the right buttons the trigger will be pulled!
Absolutely love those later black models with the chrome tank. Any good and honest XT500 is rare and expensive. This one is very early and original (EU spec), couldn’t pass on it.
