Moving the discussion from MOTO Tag highjack. Looking for a TW 200 in AZ. I did find an ugly 1988 with 5K miles locally. Problem is the guy bought it as a parts bike, and does not have a title. Looks like the only option would be to register remotely in Vermont and then transfer to AZ. Sounds easy to get crossed up.

Hard to find used, or new here.

I just looked on the Yamaha web site, and they're listed brand new as $4,699. I swear that they were $5,400 last year. But, that's only $700 more than that '06 listing. People are proud of those things. Considering the prices of new & used. . . . I'd just go new.

Once met a TW rider during a fuel stop. Sounded like an experienced rider and was now down to the TW being his only bike. He was very pleased with his go any where, never get stuck bike. I rode away wondering if I should get one.

I have one for a training bike at my school and love it. I've been keeping my eyes open for a good used one for myself. I sat on my hands earlier this winter when a 16 with 500 miles come up for sale. The price was very fair but it was on the other end of the state and just before Christmas so I thought I would wait till after the new year. Bad move.

Anyone have experience titling a bike without one?

There was one over an hour away. 2014, about 4500 miles, sold in 3 days for $4000.
A 2019 just went up in Yuma,
List new is $4700, but I hear OTD is about $6100 here. There is one locally still in the crate, but I'd rather wait for an older/cheaper option.

Around here, people register old cars/trucks/trailers without original titles. But, you have to take it to a L.E. agency that has an auto theft division. They find all the secret numbers, and verify that it's not stolen. You then get a new title.

It sold already anyway. AZ had no published mechanism.

Trouble is, you can’t find any new ones. Demand has picked the dealer stock clean. It has driven the prices of even clapped out, ridden hard used ones to insane prices.

I did find a new one, but around here OTD is about $6100. It was in the warehouse, and they wanted money down to pull it and assemble. Not worth that price IMHO. I did find a used one too, but since we bank in Illinois, it's hard to get cash when that's what used owner's demand. I'll be patient.

I did just learn that the XT250 has the same seat height.

Rather than buying a second hand, I would go with New one.
There is not much difference in price.

I agree with all three of y'all. I hate over paying for anything. But, if I'm gonna pay top dollar for something, I had rather it be brand new. . . . than unknown used.

One advantage of the current market, is if you do buy new, and have the cash, resale values are high. Cost of ownership isn’t bad.

Here we pay sales tax on new and used. No advantage buying used there.

If you can buy a couple year old tw for half price, that made sense. Those are unicorns in the current for sale group right now.

If you think about, the TW hasn't been changed since '01; except for BNGs. It's about as low tech as you can get; still carbed. And, yet the resale is stupid high. Yes, the lack of change has something to do with that, but, if it was a piece of crap, nobody would be paying the prices that it's pulling down. And, the high resale is another reason to buy the new bike. . . . it's not like you're gonna lose much money when/if you sell it.
