Looking for a new or used engine for my 2012 Tenere. If anyone has a wrecked bike with a good engine still or know where I can find a motor somewhere it would be greatly appreciated.
Did a 600 mile ride with no issues one day, and then the next day it just wouldn’t start again. My shop pulled off the side of the engine case and found a bunch of metal shavings, and scoped the cylinders and they were all scored up. 60,000 miles. Haven’t actually found out what exactly went wrong. There was a listing for a bike being parted out. What happened?
At the very least they may be interested in what failed.call Yamaha
My mechanic called Yamaha a few times and they keep telling him to just dig further into it. But it’s official that the engine is toast, and the next step is to pull the engine and pull the top end. So if I need a new bike or a new engine I don’t want to pay for him to do that to just figure out what the problem is.call Yamaha
Hmm.. 60K miles. My guess would be a CCT failure. Did you still have the original CCT? Had you been noticing a little extra start up noise lately?Did a 600 mile ride with no issues one day, and then the next day it just wouldn’t start again. That’s exactly what I thought it was. But apparently the CCT looked fine when they pulled the side off the case off. Which I’m surprised about.Hmm.. 60K miles. My guess would be a CCT failure. Did you still have the original CCT? Had you been noticing a little extra start up noise lately?
The debris under the side cover... dunno. It would have had to of been making a hell of a racket as a loose chain sawed away at the innards if it was a cct thing. Plausible...Hmm.. 60K miles. I agree doesn't add up. Bike was running normally and parked, then won't start and damage was found. The debris under the side cover... dunno. It would have had to of been making a hell of a racket as a loose chain sawed away at the innards if it was a cct thing. Plausible...
Pretty much always had noise on start up. Kind of like a slapping noise that would go away after a couple seconds. Never increased though. Always kind of the same. I’m kind of not convinced that it wasn’t the CCT. But I would assume my mechanic knows more than me.I agree doesn't add up. I am really curious as to unanswered question about start up noise. The CCT isn't known to fail randomly. Always plenty of warning for thousands of miles before they typically fail.
