I never felt unsafe in small towns but most large cities in the USA feel sketchy especially as the sun goes down.
Probably just a feeling. If you feel safe in Mexico you shouldn't have a problem in the US. Mexico has 6 cities in the the top ten cities with the highest murder rates in the world. It's not just media hype. I'm not saying not to go just be sure you know what you're possibly getting into and don't fool yourself.

I rode though the coast down to Mexico city and hated it. The amount of trash was out of this world and mexico city itself was a bit of a shit whole. If your traveling Mexico imo I would avoid the major city's and make a plan to what you want to see. The toll roads a blocked off my locals asking for money and can get very aggressive. First time for me getting hit over the head by toll poll over the head over 50 cents. But in my 2 weeks time in mexico I did like culiacan and much of its green landscape. Its only a 2.5 hour drive in. Will I be back? Yes but with more of a plan. I did hear of all the bad things that could go bad. Well from personal experience I can tell you it's bs. Use some common sense and avoid the problem spots and you'll be fine. If your not use to how crazy Mexicans can drive then it's not for you.

It has been awhile since I posted. I only go for rides once a week on a Tuesday morning. I have been watching Long Way Up and Long Way Down. Since I saw Long Way Down I have ridden the length of The Americas with my wife. I think the series is pretty entertaining and it is nice to see places we have ridden to.
On a different note I got a new front tyre today. It’s a Mitas E08. It cost a little over $90 dlls and cost $10dlls to get it mounted and balanced. The last time I was riding in the States it cost me $50dlls per tyre to have a shop mount and balance them and zi had to take them off the bike. The $10dlls this time included the guy take them off the bike etc. I gave him a dollar tip for the work and he was well pleased. C541DB19-4FEF-47F3-B6CE-FFF94AA92BAF.jpeg
It used to be everything bike related was twice as much as in The States I am not sure what happened but I think it was Mexico’s protected economy and high import duties. It looks like globalization has been good for bikers here. Let’s see how long this tyre lasts.

I stopped taking my Tuesday morning rides when Covid numbers started going up again. I should get vaccinated before April and life will slowly get back to being normal.
My wife is a recovering cancer patient and last week we were told if all goes well she will be given the all clear in June. She was operated on on May 2, 2018. That was the day we we’re supposed to fly to the UK to start a 6 month European trip. We have no complaints as she has received excellent treatment and free meds through the State Health system.
Getting back to bikes Iwill ride to Aguascalientes tomorrow. My mother in law is there and my brother-in-law who has been taking care of her needs some help. My wife will stay here which is fine with me.
I will take photos on route but here is one from home with my bike packed. 9C8ED895-EB99-4A0F-8F7A-0230D9BEFEB4.jpeg

The bike on the right is my little Honda CGL125 which is a great bike to run to the shops on. It has a gearbox which is all down. This means you press down to go from 1-2-3-4-5 and then down from 5-N-1. It takes some getting used to and going from 5-N-1 with the bike going down the road would be pretty catastrophic.

Well I am back in Mexico City after spending about 12 days taking care of mum-in-law. I only took one pic on the way home. It is near Acambay in Estado de México. It was a nice ride home on good roads with almost no traffic and beautiful blue skies. I discovered my final drive seal was weeping when I got home. I had bought a new seal about 18 months ago. The bike has close to 125,000 kms so I guess that is ok. I had already replaced the pinion oil seal. A total of about 20 dlls in parts. Seems a lot better than around 8 chains and sprockets on a chain driven bike in the same mileage at a cost of around 2,000 dlls. I love my ST 2B1F54C4-B57D-445A-B2FA-73D97DCF4AB9.jpegE30C988C-48E6-4E49-80CC-EF5CA4858BFD.jpeg
That’s the new seal in there.

How do you like that Shad top case ? Ive jerry rigged one out of a tool chest and its about the same size/liters as an OEM top case, but made of plastic and so not anywhere near as secure as one made of metal. I came across Shad on Amazon and it sounds like they're a decent brand

It works really well. It holds 2 full face helmets. My wife loves the backrest. I live in Mexico and got a really good price on it here. This is my second Shad case as the first one was retired about a year ago after it split. I think someone pushed the bike pushing on the case. The first one lasted about 50,000 miles.
I also have a set of Pelican Cases as side panniers which have been awesome.

I went for a ride today. This was my first pleasure ride in quite awhile. I got to the gas station and discovered I didn’t have my debit card so put the gas on a credit card. The card was never found so I cancelled it and am in the process of getting a new one.
I rode around 200 kms and it was cold early in the morning but I had my electric vest and heated grips.
I stopped to get a photo of a bus station for the Motorag.
Here are the 2 pics.

I tried to get a photo of one of the big bus stations in Mexico but it was too crowded with traffic but here is a photo off the internet. 96FBAD0C-FCA0-4EBA-A9DC-413EF6CD0CE9.jpeg
It is a pretty big station and some of the busses are pretty fancy. AB05C081-1D52-4A8F-B107-E8FD767AF944.jpeg4D394351-AE3E-4601-BAC5-7DC807160120.jpeg
These busses normally have a small door where the storage area is. This has a seat and a bed for the second driver when going on longer trips.

The first 3 photos are from what I call “Top of the World Road”. There is a small viewing area which you can easily miss. The view of the canyon below is the reward for stopping. It used to have a stone wall but that has disappeared since I was last there.
The other 2 photos are of a church, not far from Top of the World, and a construction with bottles over the rebar to avoid lightning.

Once back in Mexico City I stopped to have a snack by this very pretty fountain and then got a photo of this Jacaranda tree in full bloom. There are lots of these in Mexico City and they are all in bloom now. 6FC25EA7-895A-4E48-8329-194E644126C8.jpegD06BF3CE-5EB1-498F-A6CF-9B9CCE8A50BB.jpeg
