I have a 15. Had to replace mine 6 month back. These are not the biggest most robust batteries. 4 or 5 years is it. On the flip side they are not that expensive. Batteries Plus out of WA, is where I get mine. Shipping is free. I put mine on a charger during the winters.

When mine died I was a few mile from home at a gas station. I bump started it, went home and ordered a new one. Almost 5 years old time for a new one.

Dear frinds, I hope you have had a great weekend!! and my best wishes for a great week to come!
I want to share this picture of what I found today in Metepec Mexico, where unfurtunatly the safety is not a priority, or I should say, in Mexico is a different understanding in safety, and the law allows this to happen. 20180101_010345A.jpg
The family is riding their bicycle on sunday!

To all have a nice week!

I hadn’t ridden the bike any real distance since the end of March. Yesterday I made a chicken sandwich and went for a 200 km ride. I have posted similar photos before but never get tired of seeing the 2 volcanoes. Yesterday they were pretty clear and the active one was puffing out smoke. Here are the photos. 94F1E3BE-9E5D-4AFD-914E-5B7A2E516D97.jpeg3D792D8D-8B28-4584-A120-42BC107197A3.jpeg40B6A4A0-CCA3-4A41-9847-53F2F0F6A425.jpegC188F3BD-07FD-4FC3-A447-A195E18E84FC.jpeg38486FC1-9B44-4457-A6D8-32E05F686711.jpeg

I went for a ride today. It rained a little and as I was thinking of stopping to put on my rain gear I came across this accident. 0D5F8AB4-E0A2-448E-840A-7150416D69CE.jpeg5EB40168-AAFB-4D60-98C9-4DCEBED405CC.jpeg55AB5C52-3BB4-4CDB-BB17-673ED1FDC2C8.jpeg
The driver of this moto/taxi contraption is on the ground in his yellow jacket. He was conscious but not reacting much. A girl called an ambulance and then the fire brigade arrived because we were right in front of the fire station. Once they arrived zi left. The weird thing is no of the 3 passengers in the moto taxi seemed very concerned and 2 of them didn’t even get out.

Once I knew that the guy was being taken care of I went on my way. I stopped to take a picture of the Social Security campground and resort where we camped back in 2013 on our first stop on our way to Argentina. We stayed 2 nights as we wanted to prove to ourselves we were not in a hurry. It is only 90 kms from home. The trip there and back was 65,000 kms and took 18 months. I also stopped there on the way back. The trip was on my 2007 VStrom 1000.

I stopped 2 times more before I got home. Once to take a photo of the odometer at 120,000 kms. And another to buy 2 pasties. Pasties were brought to Mexico by English miners. It is the same story I heard while in the UP in Michigan. The pasties here are a bit smaller and a lot cheaper at 85 US cents.

Keep up the Mexico pics we enjoy them since a lot of us are scared to travel down there due to the media stories. I'm sure we'd probably be alright as long as we avoided certain areas.

You are correct, the media sotries scare to many people, but when we travel even in our areas we need to follow our feelings and we know some places we will not go, I work for GM in Mexico and when in Detroit I allways avoided certain areas in the Metro Area because safety, the same thing happens in Mexico! for example I allways avoid (as much as I can) traveling at night in secondary roads. Also I had decided to travel with at least a friend (being 2 bikes) much better if we do travel 3. So I understand you feelings but commun sence will help us to be more secure and also being fully aware of our souroundings (360 deg) will help us to be more secure.

Mexico has to many great places to visit as well as the US and we can say that any country in the world have great places to visit but forums like this will help us to share the beauties every place has and we can not visit.
LETS KEEP SHARING OF OUR BEAUTIES AROUND OUR AREAS!!
Have a great day!

What an amazing thread, so many interesting pictures and interesting insights into life and motorcycle riding in México.

I'm curious as to what it would be like for an American to ride to Cabo on a motorcycle. I've driven down there one time many many many years ago (by car), but it seems like this was before all of the cartel violence that one hears about.

I speak fairly fluent Spanish, and I'm originally from Europe, so I should know better not to be afraid of traveling in a foreign country do to the exaggerated media coverage, but nonetheless I am a little bit worried as to whether it would be a good idea to ride a motorcycle and camp on the Baja Peninsula. Also any insights as to what type of insurance is available and or required would be helpful.

I have had over 150 motorcycle travelers stay at my home in Mexico City. 1 of those was tragically killed in a hit and run accident. I feel this is a risk you accept and take every time you ride. The drug related violence exists as it does in every country in all of the Americas but you would have to be very unlucky or go looking for it to have problems. I believe Baja is one of the safest areas of Mexico. If you want to go then go. You can buy insurance online or at the border.
I have ridden through almost all of the Americas and felt the least safe in Nicaragua, El Salvador and The USA.

Interesting Any particular place in the USA Where you felt unsafe ? Yes I do realize there are plenty of commonly unsafe places here but so far I don’t seem to have much trouble avoiding them, but you never know for sure Where trouble might pop up.

I never felt unsafe in small towns but most large cities in the USA feel sketchy especially as the sun goes down.

When I was in cabo à year ago I rented a car and the rental car agent advised me to not drive after dark.. Especially between los cabos and cabo san Lucas (or whatever those two towns close to each other are called). Do you think that was alarmist or good advice?

I almost never drive at night. In my travels to Argentina and then to Alaska, a total of 110,000 kms, I may have ridden 500 kms at night. The reason being 2 fold I don’t see as well as I used to at night and the other more important reason in Latin America a lot of wild life is out on the road at night. This also seems to be true in the US and Canada at dusk and dawn with deer.
To sum up the rental guy was probably right.

"Back in the day", we used to always/only travel at night; leaving after 10p. But, we were staying on interstates. MUCH less traffic, cops, and, mainly animal free. And, since I working midnights back then, I was used to staying awake, and the kids stayed sleeping. ;)
