windshield riding, whats your style?

So after years of riding different styles on my cruisers I've realized there are a few different types of folks. First, those who prefer no windshield. A bit of the "hardcore" old school Harley chopper, dirt bike rider types, and open cafe racer or tracker style dudes. Second in the running are the full windshield barn door folks. Face it, looks aren't really a factor there. Then third you have the full fairing types. Think radio, luxury, etc. Well on my HD Dyna I had a small quarter fairing, which takes that chest kicking wind off ya, yet leaves the face and head in clean air. However, on my StreetGlide I liked the full fairing and that pristine pocket of turbulent free air.

Now with the Super Tenere and research on the forum, I've realized there are 2 different types of windshield folks as well. You have those who want a tall shield taking the wind over their helmet and attempting to attain the pocket of blissful air, and those who prefer a smaller shield aimed at the chest/neck to ultimately the leave the head in clean air in the absence of buffetting , yet remove the chest pressure from the wind pounding. I prefer the larger shield. I too like my head in clean air with a smaller shield, but then your neck takes a beating at 80mph. I'm sitting at 6'1" with whatever inseam and run a Vstream sport tour (the middle sized one) and have the thing aimed forward a bit. Not bad I shall say.

Whats your style?

My 13 came with the Yamaha tall shield, it was ok but on long rides it was just not quiet enough for me.

Bought the biggest VStream they make last week and so far I’m very happy with it, but if I was rich I’d also buy a medium VStream just to find out how much different it might be.

With the tall Yamaha shield I had to clean the bugs off my face shield every time I gassed up, so far since installing the tall VStream I haven’t had a single bug stuck to my face shield , and yes I can look over the top of the VStream just fine.

I bought the biggest one as well, held it up to the bike, but never rode with it. In turn ordered the medium one and have been using it this week and it seems to be doing the trick. The bigger one is packaged up and ready to return. I bet it gives the best coverage though.

I've tried tall shields but in order to give enough protection I usually have to have them very high. I use the stock shield with a spoiler in warmer weather, and a 21" Parabellum with the same spoiler in cooler weather. I can still see over the shields, but the airflow is above (or at the very top) of my helmet. It's working out fine for my needs.

I'm kind of all over the place. When it's cold, I want as much wind off me as possible. Currently I'm using the stock windshield with Madstad bracket and like it this way. I like some wind, but not to the point where turning my head is a chore. In Texas especially when getting out of the city...WAY too many large bugs! Also, just don't like any type of projectiles such as sand, pebbles, etc. hitting me. I keep my face shield open. I wear eyeglasses.
Sometimes I just want quiet and relaxing so I'll go with something taller. I like on the Gen. 2 how it has those wingnut type fasteners to switch windshields quicker.
But I have Stock windshield, Givi airflow, Vstream, Cal-sci Xtra large, parabellum.
Not a fan of the Vstream. I like the sturdiness and the material, but it puts too much wind against my arms, chest.
I also like shorter windshields because of less drag and less pull and drag in cross winds or truck turbulence.

I have the mid size VStream and a Madstrad, I like to look a couple of inches over the windshield. The wind goes over my helmet and I have a clear line of sight.

The Tenere was the first bike I ever had with a windshield. When I first rode it the buffeting drove me crazy. Replaced the stock with a 21" windstream added the winglets and it's perfect for me now. I'm 6' and the shield is right at my nose level. If it's raining I can duck down a little. Works for me! ::021::

Stock screen set at "medium height" on a Gen 1, then add on the spoiler (like the Touratech) that can adjust height and angle. Aim the air to hit the top of the visor. Perfect and quiet! Enjoying the Akrapovic sound regardless of speed.

Givi Airflow tilted back an extra 15 degrees with spacers on the bottom mounts. This screen really reduces buffeting.

Right now, I'm riding with a horrible HJC FG-Jet helmet that is sort of open-faced but with an oversized shield. It's so noisy I almost can't hear the bike. I can't tell what is wind noise from the screen and what is just the airflow banging around the helmet. I need to get past buying my house so I can scrape up the cash for an RF1200.

I have stock on mine.
When it is warm in the summer, I lower it, so I get some wind in the helmet.
If cold, then I raise it to third or fourth pos. (fourth=top poc. ;-) )

(some times I ride with original low seat, and by that I get about 20 mm more "behind" the windshield)

Took off the entire gen ll windshield adjustment bracket including the accessory bar. Put on my wunderlich adjustement brackes and my gen l tall touring windshield.

4 inches up and down and 1 inch of recline. Not to mention the two, inch lower holes in the windshield itself gives plenty f range of comfort.

I'm happy with the setup. Also no deflector wings. Never tried them!

Did the same but with the Givi Airflow, mounted the hardware I had from the Gen 1 I had before.

Really, nobody has problems with side wind or traffic turbulence with available windshields? ???

Guess it's just me! :'(
Well, og course I can feel if a car drive fast the other way, and if I cross a bridge in sidewind, with these big concrete "pillars".
But no problem at all.

And no turbulence..

+1 to all the above.

I use a Shoei Hornet X2, with a sun visor. I need protection from wind and buffeting to not allow that visor to yank my head / neck around.

I use: OEM standard screen and brackets, MRA X-creen Tour, OEM side wings, and a windshield bracket brace made by an inmate on this forum.

The combination works well for me (6' 0", lowered OEM seat) in all weather.

I've got the Yamaha Tall windscreen with a small extra winshield on the top of that attached to the top that keeps all the wind off my head and body, and I absolutely freaking love it.

You are not alone. Driving in traffic especially on a busy expressway the air is very turbulent due to all of the other cars and trucks. That was the main reason I got the Madstad and the larger Madstad windshield. Now when I am in that traffic I can put the shield all the way up and the buffeting is gone. The sidewind though.....not so much. I think you would have to have a very wide windscreen to block that sidewind... I think I have seen on this forum that really wide screens can hit the handle bars.

I have noticed the MadStad bracket doesn't always stay in place.
I don't think I have had that problem for the most part. I did notice that you have to make sure the screw knobs are set just right in the notches on the bracket. You can feel them. if you tighten the knob in between two of the notches it will just vibrate loose. Hard to explain, so I hope you are following me.
