Got shot #1 yesterday (Pfizer). Sore arm for 24 hours. No other side effects.
Getting my first on Saturday and am SO looking forward to being able to travel come April.

Really glad also to see the War Powers Act finally being used to speed production and the timeline.

As a follow up to a post a couple weeks ago. Denton Co, hit 100K people vaccinated. . . . .since February 2nd. And, they had to close for a week when the power went out. Little ol' Denton Co. Apparently they still have their shit together. Somebody there needs a bonus.

I truly believe we are doing duped in California. Every single nurse, physical therapist and doctor I have spoken with is telling me there is no shortage here. It's the distribution that is breaking down.

Politics likely has something to do with it, but I think it's more of an ego thing. Everybody wants to be the one in charge. So, while everybody is sitting around arguing. . . . nothing is getting done.
Politricks certainly does. "I believe it is no more the 1%" was last years headlines...

Same the world over.

The evening before last I got an email that an unexpected batch came in and I could sign up for an appointment yesterday. Maryland had been sending a lot of what the State got to all the Eastern Shore areas with chicken packing plants (nearly 100% immigrant btw) that feed a lot of the country, plus the packed urban areas where the high rates have been, so getting that email was a shock after getting up early to hit almost a dozen web-sites a day.

Whoever is running the show has their act together because it only took EIGHT minutes from arriving to a line outside of a high school, moving through check-in, getting the shot (Moderna), and arriving into the waiting area for the 15 minute time-out. For a bit I had a guilty feeling seeing probably 90% of the people were 75+ and a large number had wheelchairs, walkers, or helpers. Most of the rest looked like <40 y.o. school teachers with only a few like me (65) in between age-wise, but I did qualify three ways with being 65, high BP, and teaching.

The other reason for this post was that one of our grown kids really pissed me off afterward. While we aren't all born with the same opportunities or obstacles, I expect people to do what they can to better themselves or they have ZERO right to complain. It aggravates the heck out of me when people complain if they don't take the initiative to sign up everywhere possible and at 6 or 7am do the rounds of pharmacy, County, State, and hospital websites. One of our kids has an essential worker letter from his employer and I jumped on his case for telling me he didn't want to get up so early.

Well poor distribution can certainly cause shortages, semantics no? What I'm not hearing about anymore is stock piles of undistributed vaccines stuck in warehouses like we had briefly at the very beginning. I think the State just wasn't ready thinking Uncle Sam was going to take care of everything, then bad-mouthed the fed when they found it was up to the state. I never heard a clear consistent plan for distribution before the vaccine landed in the state's lap.

I had my annual physical this past Wed. Dr told me I qualify under the current, (that day), guidelines to get a CV-19 vaccination and to get it done. When I got home, I went online with the MS Health Dept where you can schedule appointments. They list the number of vac appointments available by county, you pick one, answer some questions and get scheduled an appointment. My county they are only in one location, all outside drive thru type. I got one of the last 2 available this week. MS counties are small, so I could have easily driven ~75 miles to a smaller county that had 500+ doses available still. New batch of vaccines every week. My appointment was this moring at 10:40 am.

I drove over to the mall where they are set up for the vaccinations, big sign for "Enter Here" and a city police car with a National Guard person standing there in an orange vest. No line. I pull in, mask up, roll down the window and answer a few questions, he checks me off against my appointment time on his list. Did not ask for any ID. Tells me to drive across the parking lot to the next NG person. Next guy again checks my name against the list, again verifies the appointment time, hands me a Pre-Vaccine checklist panplet with info and a dozen yes or no questions to answer, plus fill out my name, etc. Tells me to go to one of 2 lanes and fill out my paperwork there.

I drive to the designated lane, fill out my paperwork, (easy and fast), then pull up to the tent. A Nurse comes out, asks my name, again verifies me against the list, then gives me a run down on how it's going to go, then hands me another form already filled out, tells me to read and sign if everything is correct, (it was), then to pull around following the cones to the next tent. Two lanes throughout at this point. There was one car in front of me when I pulled up to the spot to fill out my paperwork.

I drive around to the next tent, again verify my name against a list, she hands me a shot card filled out with the date, location and my name and DOB, tells me that if I feel wonky or am having a reaction after the shot to honk my horn and someone will come, not to try to drive anywhere or get out of the car, then to pull thru the tent and up to the next tent to get my shot.

Next tent is all NG staff. No car in front of me. I pull up, he verifies my name and DOB again, then swabs with alcohol, stabs me painlessly with the shot, (no pain during stab or actual injection of vaccine), puts a bandaid on it and slaps a post it note with a time 15 minutes in the future and send me off. I follow the cones to the exit line. Two lanes, the other lane for shots went to a different part of the parking lot and also has multiple lanes. As their times come up, cars are released from the lot and the line moves forward. I think there were 4 cars ahead of me. The NG guy moved the cone and let three leave, a few minutes later let the one in front of me go, then I had about 8 minutes to wait until they let me go. I had a brief bit of soreness about 30 minutes after the shot that is gone now, not quite 2 hours after the shot. I have a very, very mild bit of a headache that is fast dissipating and I noticed about 30 minutes after the shot.

I was both given a phone number to call for my second shot appointment, and sent an email with a link to do so. I've already got my second shot appointment for 3/25 and was offered two dates online to choose from.

All in all, very well run, no waiting to speak of except the mandatory 15 minutes after the shot to make sure there are no complications. No one that I witnessed had any complications while I was going thru the process. My appt. was at 10:40, I got there at 10:31 and was gone at 11:00.

Funny side note, yesterday MS Health Dept and the Governor announced that anyone 50+ can now get the Covid Vaccinations. They also noted that this was in part because 94% of the deaths in MS have been people in the 50 and older age range.

To date, 94% of COVID-19 related deaths (6,381) and 80% (7,342) of COVID-19 related hospitalizations in Mississippi have been among those 50 and older, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Don't be surprised if you get some aches/pains about 24 after the shot. They'll be gone in another 24 after they start.

I heard a clear plan yesterday right out of California Governor Newsom's lips at his daily COVID address to the state. As of yesterday morning: The essential farm workers that are working in the fields picking fruit and vegetables and hispanics are priority. He also stated that documentation of US citizenship is not going to be required in order to get the vaccine.

As far as a consistent plan I have not seen it yet for those of us that are hard working taxpayers that have insurance. No rhyme or reason as to why we are being left out......

My dad is a veteran, 90yrs old and been through about everything. He's been shot, broken 8 ribs in an accident, gets his teeth drilled and pulled with no pain killer. He told me the shot really hurt and he felt like crap for days. If this man feels that way, I think I will pass and let the rest get the vaccine.

Pretty easy to understand why farm workers have been moved up on the list
I don't see it. What makes a healthy undocumented farmworker more important than a taxpaying US citizen who is at just as great or greater risk? Why are convicted child molesters and pedophiles getting the vaccine so they can get early release to rape more children? It makes no sense at all but that is how it's being distributed. Every week we get the news from our piece of crap bleeding heart public officials.

The vaccine is being given out to everyone but the people who really need it. Follow the stay at home orders, tell the truth, carry health insurance, pay taxes and you are last on the list to get it. It is total BS.

Day after report - slept fine, minor ache in the arm, but if I rub my arm where I got the shot it doesn't hurt to do so. Just sort of a very light muscle ache that is trivial.

Side note, my 90 year old Mom got both shots a month or two back and had very few side effects. She's more bothered by having to stay isolated in her room for the most part since the folks at her care facility aren't really set up to allow group activities with social distancing, and everyone there is high risk. She texts and Zoooms with her friends, etc, but misses going down for a meal with friends or playing cards, etc.

. . .
Why can't veterans be at the front of the line? I think they earned it. Regardless of country.
I absolutely could see veterans IF they are in the 10% who can show a CIB or CAB and those have my total respect. One of our kids is out of the USAF & has issues from seeing people he targeted and killed through a close up image and I've done enough stormy nights tossing on Navy boats (as opposed to ships) that there's something to be said for those sailors. BUT from the health risk to them and societal aspect they probably don't need to have priority different from the established tier system.

Otherwise, 40% never get deployed, only 10-20% of those 60% who do ever see a combat zone, and a portion of those ever need to use a weapon. Sound cold? Sorry, but I've been to more combat/conflict zones (3), worked around more land-mines, risked more 3rd world disease, dealt with more death, had more guns stuck in my face by untrained kids, have PTSD that I don't wish on anybody, and KNOW my PTSD from serving others is not unique when dealing with long time police, firefighters, EMS, State Department foreign service, or a lot of other Govt services. And we non-vets all are following the distribution which is based on who is at greatest risk of death AND/OR contribution (or risk) to society. That's why I agree with prioritizing somebody 75+, an EMS worker, a school teacher, or medical need over your average veteran.

And again if somebody who thinks they are in one of those tiers isn't actively looking to improve their own situation by daily working to find a shot . . .

Our Governor put out a bunch of stats on why prisoners are being inoculated and basically it's because most get released so fast what they pick up in jail goes straight into the community of people who do the labor at truck loading docks and all sorts of other blue collar jobs. I can see both sides of that argument.

As for those undocumented farmworkers in the Maryland chicken factories, Ohio pork farms, & California farm fields - they are working jobs NONE of us want from sun-up to sun-down, live in cramped places to spread sickness among them, and feed more Americans than probably anybody on this forum but the few farmers we have. I'm not eating dinner because somebody paid their taxes or is a US citizen.

Rant done, flame away, just one man's opinion and you aren't going to change it.
