The Media
"Fake News" - what a liar spouts to undermine confidence in reporting everywhere. The truth is the truth and a lie is a lie.

Nothing insidious in the comment "...In the Uk the media reported that trials had indicated...." unless you can put forward evidence that what they were reporting was/is incorrect.

I think its only natural that hunanity will clutch at every available straw to find hope regarding the virus. Some will work others wont.

This POLL is Rigged:D
Regarding the poll, I think the choices "NO” and "maybe later" are pretty much the same. Most healthy folks are going to have to wait until later anyway.

Not much hope in not getting it as my wife’s work is deemed essential. With schools, daycares and sporting events opened up “Rona” is getting pretty common around here. My 75 year old mother in law had it, was sick but is recovering well. My father in law who has heart problems did not get it or was a symptomatic.

Both of our states are in the same boat for different reasons. Your state is opening everything they can and warning to be safe. It is not working. The schools in Idaho have shot through the roof with COVID infections the last month.

My state is on lockdown but not enforcing it so the cases here are climbing at an alarming rate.

My wife’s employer has really relaxed on enforcement of distancing, mask wearing, and making outsiders coming in do the same. One of the girls in my wife’s office has had corona in the day care her son goes to.

My wife stayed home today with a fever and other symptoms. She is scheduled for a test.

I can social distance and wear a mask till 2023, but if my wife is positive I will be exposed.

On a positive note, We are not high risk, and the people I personally know that have had Covid have all recovered and don’t know what all the fuss is about.

Mmm, you seem to forget how important those at the bottom of society are. The bin men, the sewer workers, the healthcare workers, all those that work hard for minimum wage and can just about make it through when everything is ok. Doing the jobs that you and I wouldn’t want to do and being paid just enough to get by but not enough to pay for decent healthcare. (And thank god they do) All it takes is for an accident or an illness and suddenly they can’t cope. I don’t see anything wrong with society giving them a hand back up when they need it. In the uk everyone gets all healthcare free at the point of need regardless of how much they earn. Of course we all pay for it in our taxes but no where near the amount that the US pay for a similar standard of cover. So I cannot understand why so many Americans are against free healthcare. If done right you could end up with a better, cheaper system than we have just because of the economies of scale. Our drugs are sold cheaper to us because our single huge healthcare supplier the National Health System (NHS) can get a better price from the drug companies. Imagine how much cheaper you could get them if the US had an NHS! And it is possible. In 1947 when the UK was still on its knees after the war, Kier Hardey started the NHS which has become a much loved institution UK wide. You may not have seen it but for weeks over the summer our citizens came out of their houses every Wednesday evening and clapped for our NHS in appreciation of the work they were doing to fight covid. Many of the nurses earn so little that they are forced to use food banks to feed their families. But I guess they would be viewed as Freeloaders by some Americans.
My message is that it’s ok to be nice, it’s good to be generous and it’s great to have empathy.

Just another reminder that while this is the Debate Room and we do allow more leeway here, we have warned against posts that are purely political in nature, and will remove them as we deem necessary.

Much of this can be attributed to our greed, and politics. Not taking sides, just placing blame.

Back when I first started my career, I was somewhat surprised when, filling out initial paperwork at the hospital for the birth of my second son, I found that I qualified for government assistance due to my lower income. When I decided on my career, I knew that I would never get rich, but damn.
