HI guys,

right my xt1200is going in next month for the valve clearance service about a hours ride from me, now the mechanic wants me to bring him the bare bike to save time and money as its fully loaded altriders top and bottom plus lights etc to get off and back on theres quite a bit.

Now thats fine as there powder coated as well so if i strip all the accessories off there better off with me that stacked on a shelf in a garage and i,ll save a few dollars
by removing myself, the problem i have is i had the little black oem crash bungs bars in my garage for 7 yrs never used them and sold them off a few weeks ago lol,
now if i take the altrider bars off i have no support on that bottom edge of the radiator. i sold the pair new for £35 gutted.

so will it be ok for that trip without it i don,t know, OR has anybody in the uk HAVE THE LEFT OEM crash bar i can have it can be badly scratched as i just need it to support the rad for the service ride

cheers guys

Any scrap metal laying around you could use to knock a support up Rob?

yes ade,

that might be my option once the altrider is off, i,ll be able to see where the rad is to that one mount hole might be able to make something just to help for that ride

Could you just leave that left crash bar minimally in place, bring the necessary tools and just remove it yourself upon arrival at the dealer?

I can vouch for Rowan too, he's a decent giy and a cracking mechanic, bit of a perfectionist too.

I hop you guys know how lucky you are to have a good shop and mechanic that you can talk to. I haven’t had on since the late 70s. The guy was super nice and had his son and wife in his shop. The nice wife showed up to the shop one day and he had committed suicide

That's sad, no one knows what goes on inside the head of people.

This mechanic has worked for a few businesses and spent a lot of time as pit crew during enduro events.

My valves will need looking at next year and it's the one job I won't do myself, I guess we are lucky here that there is someone we can trust to do it and do it well.

LOL, I took mine to a top tier tech for my valve check, he swore off Ténéré forever and always afterwards.
