I would love to, but already going to be at another event that weekend. I will be in the area around the 22,23,24 if anybody wants to do some riding.

OK guys and gurls, this is shaping up to be a great weekend - was out riding WV yesterday and it was absolutely gorgeous. Not quite so great the day before in the pissing rain, but still pretty good.

Just been emailing with Larry at Romney about arrangements. Naturally they are interested in how many people will be attending. I'm estimating 20 or so when you add up the definites/maybes/late comers and late dropouts. I hope that's accurate!

Larry is organizing catering for Saturday night, as well as shower, toilets, firewood, and is asking IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE WE NEED?. So, now's the last chance to throw in your ideas!

Apart from total numbers, I'd like to get an idea of how many are camping Friday night, and if you want to eat in town? If so, and there's more than a few of us, we should give the restaurant(s) fair warning... Let me know.

I was actually scouting a route and it was great but then started turning to crap - rocky and muddy. Anyone who wants to give it try, I can point you in the right direction - but it won't be on the agenda for the Romney weekend!

Here's me when I decided to bail on that road (I was on my own, so trying to be sensible!)

"ditching it"...

That road sure looks familiar. I don't think I've been on it, but it definitely makes me think of the one I was on a few weeks ago. Sucks to get stuck like that, but probably a good practice opportunity for the journey you have planned in your future. How did the rest of the scouting go?

I plan to be there sometime Friday evening, staying through Sunday morning. Dirt Mom will not be with me. As far as eating, I plan to go with the flow and will do whatever is happening at the time. No real plans on that.

Looking better all the time to make the run. Will be meeting wifes brother-in-law from Chantilly in Romney. He also just purchased an S10 and we're wanting to look over everyone's rides to get a better idea what to put on ours.

Most likely we will be going over the hill to our hometown and stay the night. This is still up in the air, we're trying to figure out how to hook the camping stuff on the bikes. May just use a few straps and call it good.

Hoping to see everyone on Friday. ;D

I'm not committed yet. Is anybody else by chance looking to head there from the Philly area on Friday? I need moral support!

Yeah I've been down that road before on the Strom - it gets pretty rocky and muddy where I turned around, seemed worse than I remember it but still doable. Probably not the thing for a group ride with differing levels of skills and experience. Since I was scouting for a route for May 19, I ruled it out...

But you're right - it was good practice at getting myself unstuck! I have a mini block and tackle thing to take on the trip, but things would have to be dire to use it - I can't imaging pulling the bike out of a hole, on my own, unless dragging the bike along on its side! Not the way to keep my baby pristine, I would guess...

There's a large clear area on the map - if you make it there you get magnificent views over the mountains and down the valley.

I think I remember you showing me that route before. I've still never done it, I need to try it out, looks fantastic on the map.

You make a good point about different levels of riding skills and experience. I should mention that anyone considering riding that map I posted at the top of this page it does have significant mud. Probably best to check the second video on this thread: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=4117.0 before deciding to do that course. I've only been on that road twice and the video shows it with less mud than I found the first time. I'm not even sure if I'll be riding that route that weekend, but if anyone else does ride it just wanted to give a heads up.

By the way, IF some of us do go down by the river don't be overly concerned about the slow pace of the video. I was leading my wife on her 2nd ride off pavement on the Tenere and it was a VERY conservative pace. Since the situation would be different I would expect a much less restricted romp.

Great! The 10-day forecast is looking good, Dirt-Dad and I have a couple of nice routes worked out, and Larry is getting the barbie fired up *(I'll bring the shrimp).

I was out investigating routes yesterday and stopped by Romney during the ride. Larry (dealership general manager) is ready to go and sounded like he's spent some time thinking about and covering all the bases. Should be a good event. Looking forward to seeing everyone next weekend.

I just saw this thread on Rella's Diner - popular feeding point for riders in WV. Seems she's considering closing... I'd like to try to get there on our ride from Romney, but a bit far I think. However, if you can head that way either coming or going, you should, it's worth it!

She is located on Rt 20, about a mile south of the lumber mill at Hacker Valley, which is just south of Holly River SP. It's about 20 miles south of Rock Cave. You can call the diner at 304-493-6658.

Here's what I have in mind.

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1177264

This does not include the muddy road. Too much rain in the last week. It does include the banked road going up Mt Storm, Rt 72, and Seneca Rocks. Not to mention multiple dirt roads. I've ridden 85% of this route, the rest will be new to me, too.

Heading out of the buckeye state in the morning and taking the long way across. Heading to Parsons, on to route 72, then across Dolly Sods to Jordan Run. With the final stop at Romney Cycle.

See you in Romny..... ::001::
