I find there is nothing wrong with the brakes really. A lot of places i ride you want feel not power. I ride in lower gears than others maybe down to the roads i ride. If I come into a corner hot im nearly on the rev limiter and just back off and slow down i don't use the brakes in anger. And it doesn't overload the front. Depends what bike you have come from i suppose and your style of riding. It's only got 110 horses it's not a KTM so it has the right braking for what it is.
I come from several KTM:s, R1, S1000RR etc and all those bikes have better feel and power on the brakes.
For slow gentle rides the brakes are ok but when you really need them things are getting dangerous.
We all have different preferences.

The test in TX consists of the vehicle getting up to 30mph(?) and stropping in a certain distance. Not very scientific. Maybe you weather is really that bad. That being said, there's a reason they call a part of our country "New England". Weather has to be equally yuck.

I was in College station TX when they had the first ice storm in 20 years. Schools shut, business closed and 38 people died on the roads. But it was pretty normal winter for us. ( until climate change)

The problem is not cracking rubber brake lines, the problem is that rubber lines start to flex and you loose feel and performance.

It’s also stated in the workshop manual that master cylinder piston seals and caliper piston seals are replaced every two years. From my experience having changed mine at 22k miles, it makes a big improvement to braking. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it and it shows how brake power diminishes unnoticed.
