I searched and other than my rack is better than yours I wanted to know the width of different racks . Im going with a more Plain Jane Panniers as I wanted them tyhats why but they should be able to mount on any side rack as not drilled yet.
I read the bike is 38 inches by itself and if the racks are only 21 wide then 7 inch panniers will not affect it that much as still narrower than widest part of bike , 9 inch a little more but not bad

I know that the Givi Side racks are popular due to decent racks and good price but I couldnt find the width of the bike with the racks on at the racks .
Everyone posts their width and sometimes say they have 7 inch or ten inch panniers
Happy trails had it listed theirs "Finish: black powder coat paint only
Bike width with SU rack installed: 21.5"
Which is not bad

I just wanted if you all would be so kind to post the widths of your side racks as Im looking at getting a pair in a few weeks but want narrow for maybe larger panniers

1. Happy trails = 21.5"
2. SW Motech = 19.5-19 3/4 SWmotech racks. 19.5 This is from the outside of the rack. 19 1/2" rear,,,, 19 3/4" front
3. Givi = 18 3/8 Givi racks with the 3/4 turn quick release fasteners. They are 18 3/8" ?
4. Touratech Rack only: 20" outside to outside Rack splay: 4.25" left front, 5.125" left rear 2.5" right front, 3.5" right rear
5. Holan Nomada Pro system for the Super Tenere. * Pannier rack alone - Approx 18.5"
6.

I could measure mine for you, but they are the SWmotech and I know other racks are tighter to the bike. But if you want those also give a shout.

Please measure as I want to make a list so that information is here.
Kind of like below to give more information as we can pick different panniers but unless we buy the same setup we run into I have jesse bags and its 38"
What if we want a close in rack and then decide which bags ?
Or am I crazy and no one wants that information?

They are 18 3/8" ????
4. Rack only: 20" outside to outside Rack splay: 4.25" left front, 5.125" left rear 2.5" right front, 3.5" right rear
5.

Don't know much about the width of various racks offered, but the last time I measured between the outside of each hand guard, I came up with a hair over 39" rather than the 38" some are reporting.

I have the Givi racks with the 3/4 turn quick release fasteners. They are 18 3/8" across.

They are not symmetrical. The one on the side towards the exhaust is as tight to the bike as it could possibly be. The one on the other side has lots of air, but it is still about an inch closer to the centerline of the bike, than the exhaust side is.

SWmotech racks. This is from the outside of the rack. 19 1/2" rear,,,, 19 3/4" front. The racks are not symmetrical. My racks have been adjusted to remove the splay.

Could be lack of sleep, but I found that enormously funny. Thanks for the giggle!

I have Touratech racks and panniers; will measure tonight and post results.

I did a bit of measuring on the Touratech 31/38 pannier set up on my bike. With the panniers mounted, it is 38" across, outside to outside. On their website, Touratech says "approximately 37" installed". http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/3332/PN-052-3611/Zega-Pro-Pannier-System-31-38L-Yamaha-XT1200Z-Super-Tenere

Rack only: 20" outside to outside
Rack splay: 4.25" left front, 5.125" left rear
2.5" right front, 3.5" right rear

"Rack splay" measurements came from measuring the horizontal extension pieces inboard edge to pannier. On the exhaust side, this leaves approximately 3/8" clearance between the rack and the OEM exhaust cover. If you drop the bike on it's left side, this gives a little bit of cushion. It also leaves room for the mounting pucks, which are big plastic lunkers. The Happy Trail mounts are more svelte.

I just find that the word splay is funny

Hey anyone have
::006::
Do a search on SW-motech racks, and you will see the word "splay" mentioned many times. That should make your day... ::025::

With all this talk of splay, I just measured the Givis to see if they have it. They do. Double checked my original measurement, at the back, still getting 18 3/8". But at the front, they are around 19 1/2". Visually I don't notice it. The racks, and the Givi cases, sit parallel to the frame, and since I have the E360s which have a curved jellybean shape the splay isn't noticeable - there aren't any long lines to fail at parallel.

OK. I took a bunch of pics, and tried naming them so that they make sense. Let me know if this is what you were looking for.

Thanks for all the pictures and comments as lots of info out there .
So far it looks like the Givis win . Now I know more goes into selection than just the size that counts ( at least I have heard tha t)
The build counts and so does the style like Quik disconnect would be nice as I dont hink I would ride with my bags on all the time.
Do any of you hit your panniers with your legs as that could then better to have a little more width on the racks as it would give more room ?
Just asking a sI have never had Panniers like these before , all the bikes I have had if the yhad sidbags were like goldwing or ST1300 and one cruiser with leatehr saddlebags but they were more for looks than real use.

Keep the infor coming and thanks to all

From what I've seen in pictures, the tightest fit with panniers on, and least obstrusive with panniers off is the stock set up.
