When will Canada let me in?

I would like to ride there again. Looks like the "no tourists until" date has been pushed back yet again, to June 21. Canadians, do you have any insight as to the thoughts or feelings about this? Need to make some travel decisions soon yet I don't have warm fuzzies about the June 21 date not changing.

If it matters, I'd be aiming for Atlantic Canada probably via Quebec.

I'd sure like to head south into the US. My wife follows this subject pretty closely. She's not aware of any updates yet.

If your goal is the Maritimes, I would avoid central Canada (Ont. & Que.) and head straight to New Brunswick through Maine. I believe it will be the first province to welcome US citizens who have had their vaccination. However, restrictions are being updated and changed almost daily and it's difficult to stay informed with out a constant news feed.

has the Canadian lock down done any good .... for Canadians ?
Depends on who you ask, obviously a fairly touchy subject. The provincial lockdowns have done well to curb spikes in infections.

I would think the borders are likely to reopen somewhere around July/August.

James G, thanks for relevant info. Makes it hard to plan, but that's the way it is.

There are large regional differences in the 3rd wave and coming off it. Nova Scotia is currently not even letting other Canadians in, so unlikely to get in there first. They've also been slower to get their population to a reasonable level of vaccination.

Not to change topics but it is relevant, sort of... Two years or three, not sure now, four of us (all on FJRs) took a trip from Mass to Nova Scotia. Did the Cabot Trail and camped all 5 nights. Ended up on PEI. I just want to say to all the Canadians on this forum, your country is beautiful, it was my first time in that area. The roads were in great shape, except where they were doing work on the Cabot Trail. The people were super friendly and the food was great. One place we stopped for breakfast on the Cabot Trail, don't remember the name of it but it had the word Egg or Chicken in it, was one of the best breakfasts I have had.
I can't wait to go back to that area when it opens up again. We went in September and had the best weather anyone on two wheels could ask for. Just my FYI......

Agreed! This is why I want to go back! I've done two tours of the Maritimes and had a great time each time.

We/I have hijacked this thread enough, and it's heading towards politics. . . . so. . . . yes, I would like to travel to Canada. It's gorgeous.

Happy to hear that you enjoyed your time on Cape Breton Island. I can ride the Cabot Trail just about whenever the mood strikes me. I suspect the place you stopped at was "The Clucking Hen", a favourite spot for me as well. It is included in our so called 'barnyard run', which is The Clucking Hen, The Dancing Goat and The Farmers Daughter, all with excellent food. Hope you can make a return visit in the future. Regards, Rick.

We did the WeSTOC rally (www.westoc.org) in Calgary in 2019, just under the wire more or less. Really enjoyed some of the dirt roads along the eastern foot of the Canadian Rockies - until it started to rain and then thunder and lightening too close for comfort. We hid out at a country store we found to let the storm pass over. Last year was supposed to be at Park City, UT, site of the original WeSTOC back in '96, but of course that's been postponed to this year. We usually see a lot of attendance from our Canadian friends, so hoping the border opens for them by August!

You folks might have missed it, but this was posted in Canada / Regional and not the Lounge or Debate Room. I was asking about riding.

@WJBertrand comments reminded me of what a great time I had at the two WeSTOCs that I was lucky enough to ride cross country to attend (Bend OR and Kimberly BC) as well as several STOCs on this side of the country. But it seems like with this group there are people that can't help but politicize everything. And this is why I have little interest in attending the Black Hills meet.

Both a "thanks" and "good luck" to CW.

Again, thanks to those who posted with relevance. I look forward to heading north of the border when I'm able.

We must have met at Bend. I was the guy replacing my ST1100's front wheel bearings in the parking lot of the Motel while it was raining! I was not able to attend Kimberly as I had a last minute work emergency. The group is still going strong although there are relatively few Honda STs in it anymore.

Filled out the paperwork and mailed my expired passport in for renewal today, probably won’t be doing any boarder crossings this year but hopefully the passport will be ready if I need it. Passport is good for 10 years so by the time it expires I will probably be to old for long motorcycle trips.

I’ve managed to make it to most of the Tenere meets held so far, everyone I’ve met has been an enthusiastic rider. Everyone is too busy riding and bullshiting to politicize anything. Sad to not make this one but hope to ride the SCMA three flags again over labour day.
my best guess at this point would be border open July or August . Hoping to get travelling again

A couple of data points. 1: I personally know a few people who crossed the Canadian border illegally several years ago, pre-covid. They got caught, taken to jail, eventually finned between $3500-5000 usd and escorted back across the border, handed paperwork for persona non gratis and told not to try entering Canada ever again.

2:. Just today a riding friend told us she crossed from WA into Canada, (B.C.), with proof of vaccination.
