Wheel Bearing Sizes

I looked around and could not find the bearing sizes for the rear wheel, so I'm posting this stuff up in case anyone else doesn't feel like paying the for Yamaha's markup. Online prices were taken from amazon, yamaha prices were taken from yamaha parts warehouse.

There are three bearings in the rear wheel, the sizes are as follows:
P/N 93306-27212-00 is a 62/22DG made by KBC. This is the same thing as a 62/22 2RS. $30.83 dealer price, $10-20 online.
P/N 93306-00521-00 is a 6005RD made by Koyo. This is the same thing as a 6005 2RS. $28.17 through yamaha, $4-20 online.
P/N 93306-07208-00 is a 6004DK made by KBC. This is the same thing as a 6004 2RS. $15.45 at the dealer, $2-10 online. THIS IS WRONG. A 6004DK IS NOT THE SAME AS A 6004 2RS.

Obviously one needs to be careful with sourcing these bearings, as the factory pieces are good quality and some of the super cheap ones are going to be very poor quality. I typically go with SKF, Koyo, and FAG... although to be honest I wonder if they all share manufacturers.

Hopefully folks find this information helpful. If it has been posted previously, then I apologize and ask for mercy from the search button gods.

Nothing wrong with that. Yamaha wheel bearings typically last about149k, in my experience. ::013::

I might think about it after120k.

149k miles is mighty impressive. My own experience has been somewhat less lucky... wheel bearings do not seem to last very long when exposed to water, mud, salted roads, and impacts regardless of who makes the bearings. This bike was exposed to those things and more by the PO, and will see more of the same under my ownership. In fact, the PO at some point experienced a rear wheel bearing failure as evidenced by some of the wear seen on the wheel speed sensor plate and bearing spacer.

Those parts look about same as my cousins did when his rear bearing failed in Dawson City Yukon last year on our 199 day ride. About 55000 on his at that time.

Lots of things can cause premature wheel bearing failure. Over washing the bike can be high on that list. But yes, off road impacts, salt and can certainly play a part too. At 95k, mine still spin nicely and do not concern me. An 8k mile trip to the Yukon and Alaska last year didn't appear to impact the longevity. Most likely, like previous Yamaha bikes I've had, I'll start thinking about replacing the wheel bearings after 100k and who knows when I'll get around to it. Sure is an easier job when they are not in multiple pieces though!

And now for the fronts....

P/N 93306-07208-00 is a 60/22DG by KBC, which is the same as a 60/22 2RS. $14.20 from yamaha parts webstore, $6-15 elsewhere. All balls sells a kit with bearings and seals, the part number is 25-1403 for about $17 on amazon. I'm not sure where they get their bearings from.

One of mine looked and felt fine, the other not so much...

Edited the OP with some new info. Apparently the 6004dk is not at all the same thing as a 6004 2rs. So much for international standards...

Replacing mine this winter at 55k just because I remember talking to you about the failure. I continue to break a spoke or two from time to time. May end up going with a woody wheel.

Absolutely! That bearing has the seal labeled 6004DK but the outer race is labeled 60/22 which is definitely more well known (not to say it's a common bearing).

It's a 44mm OD, 22mm ID, and 12mm width, for anyone who's looking for the real sizes. I can't confirm whether it has seals on both sides because mine was absolutely demolished.

Oh, this. Again.

Since we're here... my rear failed at 92,000mi and I've been rolling on an Allballs bearing kit for the last 2K. The whole package is less than $40.00 but they were not greased very thoroughly. Easily fixt with some good BelRay. Most sealed bearings are lacking for lube so look behind the seal.

On this note: Just want to pass along some other 'bearing' news... Ive replaced the non-drive rear wheel bearings on several Super Tenere's over the years after they have failed. Always replaced wheel bearings on the Tenere with 'Yamaha' bearings. Also, I have come across a "slightly bent" front axle that was putting undue stress on the front wheel bearings. We replaced the axle and wheel bearings. You could see the extra wear on the axle and feel it in the bearings.

I always suggest anytime your changing tires take a quick feel on all the wheel bearings and give everything once over before reinstalling. I'm sure I still have pictures of the exploded rear wheel bearing, maybe Ill post a few up....

Be safe !!!

Just for documenting purposes, I had a front wheel bearing fail on the abs side of the wheel. Not sure if its because of all the water and mud I been through and that bearing being covered by the plate or just bum luck. Anyway, this happened at around 20,000 mi.

I know All Balls has a good reputation on the web, but personally I'm leery of them. Several years ago, I bought a kit from them to change steering head bearings from loose to a tapered caged bearing. I bought some wheel bearings from them at the same time. One of them failed prematurely and as noted above, poor lubrication was the cause. I did some investigating and the same bearing they sold me was available on ebay for about a buck fifty a piece. Not quality bearings. I generally will only buy American, German or Japanese bearings. No Chinese or Mexican stuff.

FWIW I had a rear wheel bearing failure somewhere around 45K miles while on a trip. The servicing dealer robbed parts out of a bike on the floor to get me going. I was always concerned about that, how did they get them out etc. So I replaced them all before my Alaska trip this year. Just short of 80K miles. They all felt good, but I had enough miles I wanted new.

I got tired of the dimwits at the bearing stores, and on line I had no confidence that the pics or descriptions were what I would get. I went to Yamaha. I paid a little more but I figure I am good for another 100K or so.
