**That open Bassani's exhaust note was so completely visceral!
:D That's one way of describing a Bassani. I haven't seen one of those in forever. Every one I saw/heard was stupid loud. My kids Two Brothers is the same way.

This is the closest I could find to my *first* motorcycle. I had a later model, it had a more normal fork, rubber seat (still sprung) and the engine was a Sachs 4 speed 175cc 2 stroke job. I did have a moped before the delivery trike, but 50cc does not a motorcycle make.... unless it was a Kreidler. The 3 wheel delivery bike was made by Tempo in Norway (Jonas Øgeland) if my memory serves, and back then, 2 strokes were so common that there were gas pumps that pre-mixed the fuel with oil for you. I think the best thing about it was being able to stop and leave your feet on the pegs!

66 Ducati Monza 250. Mine was an awful blue and silver repaint. It was given to me in non-running condition. The owner couldn't figure it out. I put the plug wire on and it fired right off. When I got a CB650 Custom the next year it took me a couple minutes to figure out the shifter and brake were on opposite sides from the Ducati.

This is the first bike I ever bought. I was posted in England at the time and used it to commute between home and base. It was a twin cylinder 250cc but do not recall the three letters it went by. In North America, it was a single cylinder engine I think.

My first bike was a moped. Yamaha TY50P. Came with a "free" jacket. Wasn't old enough for the DT175...
TY50P.jpg
My first "big" bike was a Kawasaki Z750LTD. Still got the hand damage from a long run through France. Jeez those bars were killer ergonomically

My first bike in Asia was a Kawasaki KRR150SSR

My first "thumper" (always yearned for a Yamaha XT500 since one passed me on its back wheel in the mid-seventies) Husky TR650 Terra

First of two KLR650s I'd own... This one a is a '96 if I recall correctly.

First Sport TOURER

1993 ST1100. I really liked the Ventura luggage system but it never gained real popularity in the US.
This from backcountry camping somewhere outside of Channel-Port aux Basques.

First SPORT Tourer
DSC03544.JPG
1993 GTS1000. Could never find / afford the OEM sidecases, which made touring difficult.
But perfect for the weekend trips to the girlfriend's place 180 miles away.
ABS, EFI, huge front disc and caliper, and a 10.5K redline.

Quite the unusual bike. . . . for this side of the Atlantic.

I always wanted to ride a GTS. Never found one in the wild. A local Yamatech said that there was a warehouse in CA with bunches of new non-currents for sale. He said they were great on the highway, but the front swingarm made for heavy steering around town.

Although the GTS never really caught on, it was an under rated bike. IIRC it had an EXUP engine, which was plenty powerful enough in its day and good handling, albeit slightly unusual.

I remember seeing one being raced at the TT? Steve Lindsell I believe.

Mine was a Gilera 125cc Top Rally.
I actually left school, went to work to collect the money to buy it, and then went straight back to school again....:D
No wonder than 30 years later I chose the Super Tenere...
It was around 1970 in SE Norway. We were clearing trees and brush in the forest for a "do it yourself" motocross track. All I can remember is one of my friends, at the time, riding to a dropoff and as he vanished over the edge, all we heard was him hollering "Gilera touring 50 C..C..EMm..m...m!", which was the bike he was riding at the time. He and his bike survived and we all had a good laugh..... Ah, those were the days.
